Overview of RoleThe IT Operations Systems Administrator is responsible for the design, build, support, and maintenance of complex Microsoft-based infrastructure solutions, with a strong emphasis on Cyber Security. Acting as the primary interface between Cyber Security project teams and IT Operations, the role focuses on delivering secure infrastructure initiatives, enhancing organisational security posture, and ensuring alignment with operational and architectural standards.Role & ResponsibilitiesFunction as technical lead for Cyber Security infrastructure initiatives in a 24x7 operational environment.Design, build, and implement secure, scalable, and resilient Microsoft-based infrastructure solutions.Manage vulnerability remediation and security patching processes.Produce high-quality documentation to support audits and compliance requirements.Perform system administration tasks to maintain system health and stability.Recommend and implement improvements to operational processes and procedures.Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions for critical systems.Work closely with application teams to ensure integrations are secure, efficient, and perform reliably.Provide escalation support for complex technical issues.Mentor junior support staff and contribute to team development.Monitor infrastructure and security performance to meet SLA requirements.Develop and test fail-over and resilience strategies for critical services.Skills, Qualifications & ExperienceStrong expertise in Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server (2019/2022/2025) and Active Directory.In-depth knowledge of Group Policy, networking concepts, and security best practices.Experience with backup technologies (NetBackup desirable).Familiarity with Windows 11 client environments.Understanding of VMware and storage technologies (desirable).Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills.Experience working within ITIL or structured process environments.Effective communication, documentation, and organisational skills.Experience5+ year’s experience in Microsoft infrastructure within a large enterprise environment.Proven experience delivering secure infrastructure solutions and supporting Cyber Security initiatives.Experience working in high-availability, mission-critical environments.Education & CertificationsThird-level qualification in IT or equivalent experience.Relevant certifications such as MCSA, MCP, CCNA, CompTIA Security+, or Microsoft Certified Information Security Administrator Associate (Azure/M365 focus).
