Job Title: Lecturer in Furniture and Fittings
Reporting to: Academic – Faculty Head / Programme Directors; Administration – Faculty Administrator
Location: Griffith College Dublin, South Circular Road
Hours of work: As per course requirements; additional hours may be required in line with the needs of the service.
Job Summary
Applications are invited for a part-time lecturing role in the Faculty of Design. The Furniture and Fittings module is a 5 ECTS module offered on the following programmes:
* Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture and Design, Award Year, NFQ Level 7
* Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Interior Architecture, Stage 2, NFQ Level 7
We are seeking a lecturer with in-depth knowledge of Furniture and Fittings who can prepare learners to meet industry requirements. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience and a passion for sharing knowledge.
Purpose
The primary focus of this post is to play an active role in the academic direction of the module, including teaching, assessment and administration.

Required Qualifications
Candidates will be expected to have a Level 9 qualification or equivalent in interior or product design, or a cognate discipline; proven teaching excellence and ability to support curriculum development; demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to build relationships and to work collaboratively. Membership of a professional body and any record of research, scholarship and publications are an advantage.

* In-depth knowledge of Furniture and Fittings and the ability to prepare learners to meet industry requirements, develop and deliver learning and teaching materials, and teach the module.

* Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in line with college policy; contribute to leading-edge practice and may undertake research activity.

* Willing to arrange related student activities.
* Understanding and commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.

Furniture and Fittings Module (Semester 1, 5 ECTS)
Descriptor: The aim of the module is to enable the learner to develop skills in designing and detailing innovative furniture and fittings solutions. The main objective is to give learners a broad understanding of the design, manufacturing and sourcing process in relation to furniture.
Guidelines for Mock Lecture
* As part of the interview process, candidates are required to give a 5 to 10 minute mock lecture to the interview panel as if they were students.
* The lecture should cover an item (or items) from an existing or proposed programme offered by the Faculty or Department.
* The candidate may use media or teaching aids, including and projector, but is encouraged to use new technology.
* The lecture should not be the first lecture in a module and should not be a full overview of a module.
* The lecture will focus on explaining a particular aspect of the module to students who are unfamiliar with the topic.
* The lecturer should begin by outlining any prior knowledge the students are expected to have.
* Questions may be asked during or after the lecture.
