Job Description
You will be responsible for:
1. Developing and implementing Care and Placement Plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
2. Promoting the rights and responsibilities of each young person within the Service.
3. Providing physical, emotional, social, and religious/spiritual welfare of each young person in care.
4. Encouraging attendance at school, training centers, medical, and clinical appointments.
5. Organizing personal documents, arrangements, information, and finance on behalf of the young person.
6. Liaising with parents, family, general services, and other agencies on behalf of the young person.
7. Attending meetings in relation to the care and development of the young person.
8. Engaging in age-appropriate play and other activities with each young person within the Service.
9. Engaging in physical intervention where necessary, in keeping with local policies and procedures.
10. Accountable for any money spent on behalf of the service during the course of duty, demonstrating effective planning and organizing skills, including awareness of resource management and importance of value for money.
11. Making written and verbal reports to the Manager on a regular basis on the progress of development of the young person.
12. Reporting and recording any incidents, however minor, that may happen to the young person or are caused by them.
13. Assisting with the supervision of students, as appropriate/required under the direction of the Social Care Manager.
14. Familiarity with emergency procedures and knowing who to contact in an emergency.
15. Ensuring Child Protection procedures are followed in accordance with the responsibilities of a designated officer.
16. Keeping abreast of current legislation and current professional child care knowledge.
17. Promoting the participation of young people in decision-making on issues that affect their lives at both individual and collective levels.
18. Attending meetings and reporting to the Manager on matters affecting the delivery of service.
Required Skills and Qualifications
19. A Third-level Degree in Social Care.
20. A full clean driving license.
21. Proven direct work experience in a social care setting at a social care level or equivalent.
22. Experience of supporting marginalized clients/groups, preferably adolescents.
23. A working knowledge and insight into the social issues (e.g., substance abuse) that affect young people, particularly those experiencing trauma and attachment issues.
24. Ability to manage and support young people in crisis who present with challenging behaviors based on the values and principles of best practice.
25. Working knowledge of the national standards for children's residential settings.
26. Experience of key working, assessments, and care planning.
27. Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection.
