Senior Project Manager, Cork (Hybrid office based 2 days per week)
This company is a highly respected construction consultancy firm experiencing strategic growth across Ireland. They are seeking an experienced, high‑calibre Senior Project Manager to join their leadership team in Cork.
This pivotal role demands proven expertise in the full project lifecycle, particularly the complex delivery of capital projects within the Education, Leisure, Hospitality, Healthcare and Residential sectors. The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for managing a portfolio of projects, overseeing large‑scale schemes, driving strategic client relationships, and mentoring junior team members.
They offer a highly competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and exceptional opportunities for continuous professional development, leadership training, and defined career progression within a supportive, hybrid working environment.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Project Manager will operate with significant autonomy, taking end‑to‑end ownership of major projects and client accounts. The core mandate is to define project strategy, ensure financial viability and risk mitigation, lead high‑performing teams, and guarantee the successful, high‑quality delivery of complex projects from inception through to operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for defining and driving the delivery strategy for major projects, encompassing the following duties:
1. Strategic Project Leadership & Delivery

Portfolio Management: Lead and oversee multiple complex projects concurrently, ensuring all are delivered within established programme, budget, and quality benchmarks.
Risk & Governance: Implement high‑level project governance structures and robust risk management strategies across the portfolio. Conduct regular deep‑dive project reviews and provide authoritative reporting to client steering committees and internal Directors.
Contract Expertise: Expertly manage all contractual aspects of the project, including leading complex contract negotiations (e.g., JCT, FIDIC, or similar forms) and administering the roles of Contract Administrator/Employer’s Representative.

2. Client and Stakeholder Management

Account Management: Serve as the primary, senior point of contact for key clients, developing deep, trust‑based relationships and identifying opportunities for future collaboration and service expansion.
Complex Stakeholder Coordination: Manage and align diverse, high‑level stakeholders, including local authorities, regulatory bodies, funding agencies, C‑suite client representatives, and extensive external design and consultancy teams.
Procurement Leadership: Define and execute procurement strategies for contractors and specialist services, managing tender processes from PQQ through to contract award.

3. Team Leadership and Mentorship

Team Development: Provide line management, mentorship, and technical guidance to Graduate and Junior Project Managers, contributing to the development of the team’s capability and expertise.
Design Integration: Lead the integration of design, development, and construction delivery processes, challenging solutions where necessary to optimise value, buildability, and project efficiency.
Business Contribution: Actively contribute to business development activities, including inputting into fee proposals, presentations, and process improvements across the Project Management function.

Candidate Profile (Requirements)

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in managing capital projects within a consultancy or client‑side environment, ideally with exposure to Education, Leisure, or Housing sectors. Public Works experience would be highly desirable.
Education: A degree (Level 8 or higher) in Project Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
Professional Status: Chartered status (e.g., SCSI, CIOB, RICS, PMP) or actively working towards professional accreditation is highly preferred.
Technical Acumen: Deep, proven knowledge of construction contract law, project lifecycle management, and current statutory and regulatory compliance (e.g., Health & Safety, Planning).
Leadership Skills: Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with a proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and effectively manage difficult stakeholder relationships.
Software: Expert proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and reporting tools.

They Offer

Competitive Senior Package: An attractive, senior‑level base salary combined with a performance‑related bonus scheme.
Professional Advancement: Executive coaching and financial support for maintaining professional chartered status and pursuing advanced leadership certifications.
Flexible Working: Enhanced flexible working hours and a hybrid policy designed to support senior personnel autonomy.
High‑Impact Projects: Lead the delivery of critical, high‑profile projects that shape communities across Ireland.
