Maintenance Manager
Matrix Recruitment is recruiting for a Maintenance Manager on behalf of our client based in County Kildare.
This key management position will support the site business through the management of an efficient and effective maintenance function, implementing KPIs determined at site level regarding planned and preventative maintenance, reaction time to breakdowns, cost control, etc.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy, Performance & Budget Ownership
– Responsible for delivering site and group engineering objectives, achieving maintenance KPIs, managing departmental performance, and controlling maintenance expenditure within approved budgets while ensuring compliance with company policies and authorization procedures.
Engineering Team Leadership & People Management
– Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team, particularly during breakdowns and critical repairs.
Manage performance, provide feedback, oversee training and succession planning, and ensure employees are motivated, competent, and aligned with company standards.
Maintenance Operations Management
– Direct the day-to-day activities of the maintenance function, including prioritizing repairs, assigning work, scheduling maintenance tasks, organizing rosters and shift patterns, and ensuring engineering support aligns with production requirements while minimizing downtime.
Preventive Maintenance & Asset Reliability
– Develop and implement proactive maintenance strategies and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programs to improve equipment reliability, extend asset life, reduce costly breakdowns, and enhance overall plant efficiency through continuous improvement methodologies.
Contractor & Resource Management
– Coordinate the use of internal engineering resources and external contractors, ensuring the right expertise is deployed when required.
Manage contractor relationships, service level agreements (SLAs), costs, and performance while maintaining close communication with senior site and group engineering management.
Compliance, Food Safety & Quality Assurance
– Ensure all engineering activities are conducted in compliance with food safety standards, quality systems, SOPs, HACCP requirements, and legislative regulations.
Lead audit preparation, address non-conformances, and promote engineering best practices across the site.
Engineering Reporting, CAPEX & Continuous Improvement
– Oversee maintenance reporting, work orders, schedules, KPI analysis, and corrective action plans.
Lead engineering CAPEX submissions, act as the key contact for group engineering projects, and drive initiatives that improve operational performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Spare Parts, Utilities & Cross-Functional Collaboration
– Manage engineering stores, spare parts inventory, tools, and procurement processes to ensure critical parts availability.
Work closely with production, utilities management (electricity, water, refrigeration, compressed air, etc.), and senior leadership teams to support optimal production performance and cost control.
Qualifications
Engineering Leadership Experience
– 5+ years' experience in a senior engineering or maintenance management role, preferably within food manufacturing or a similar industrial environment, with responsibility for leading large engineering teams.
Technical & Project Management Expertise
– Relevant 3rd level engineering qualification or equivalent mechanical/electrical trade engineering background with a proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects and driving operational improvements.
Strong Leadership & Communication Skills
– Effective people leader with the ability to motivate, mentor, develop teams, and build strong relationships across all levels of the business.
Results-Oriented & Organisational
– Highly proactive, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with strong IT skills and a focus on performance, reliability, and continuous improvement.
