This is a strategic sales role with strong ownership: you'll help shape our market approach, build lasting client relationships, and drive measurable growth.
Role summary
As Business Development Manager you will own new business generation and account growth across food retail and food sales channels. You'll combine commercial insight and relationship management to expand our footprint, raise brand awareness and deliver on revenue targets.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and execute business development strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets.
* Identify, qualify and close new business opportunities across retail, wholesale and foodservice channels.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to maximise retention and grow wallet share.
* Work cross‑functionally with marketing, operations and product teams to shape propositions and go‑to‑market plans.
* Act as a commercial lead on strategic opportunities, from pitch to contract negotiation and onboarding.
* Track and report sales pipeline, forecasts and performance against KPIs.
* Represent the company at trade shows, industry events and client meetings to increase brand presence.
* Continuously research market trends, competitor activity and customer needs to inform strategy.
* Help define target segments, pricing approaches and channel strategies.
* Develop account plans for key customers and high‑value prospects.
* Influence product and promotional decisions with field insights and customer feedback.
Skills & experience (required)
* Proven experience in the food industry (food retail, food sales, wholesale or food service) with demonstrable commercial results.
* Track record of new business development and managing end‑to‑end sales cycles.
* Strong relationship building, negotiation and presentation skills.
* Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategy into actionable sales plans.
* Comfortable using CRM systems to manage pipeline and produce accurate forecasts.
* Self‑motivated, results‑driven and able to work autonomously in a fast‑paced environment.
Desirable
* Existing contacts / network within the food retail or wholesale sectors.
* Experience with category management or working alongside buying teams.
* Experience working in a scale‑up or high‑growth environment.
