Assistant Director of Nursing to join the team in Rehabilitation Unit.
Position Overview
The post of Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a senior clinical position which reports to the Director of Nursing. The role will be responsible for providing clinical leadership, managing the day‑to‑day clinical practices in the care centre, appropriate staff rostering, delegation and supervision, performance and development, clinical governance and assessment of risks. The ADON will work collaboratively with the DON and Healthcare Manager.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 7 years post registration experience.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Clinical Nurse Manager or above.
* Experience working in a rehabilitation setting or equivalent.
* Post registration management qualification in health or a related field.
* First level registration.
* Registered on appropriate part of Irish live register.
* Evidence of continuous Professional Development.
* Previous management experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Ensure the delivery of highest standards of nursing and social care meeting individual resident needs.
* Review nursing documentation to ensure records reflect required care and assessments are completed timely.
* Conduct ward rounds including with GP to ensure best clinical outcomes.
* Review residents at increased risk of pressure sores, falls and adverse events, & provide advice and support through clinical practices.
* Participate in handover and troubleshoot ongoing clinical issues, escalating to the Director of Nursing as appropriate.
* Ensure medication practices comply with NMBI guidelines, liaise with GPs and pharmacy regarding medication reviews and audits.
* Provide education on medication management to newly appointed staff.
* Conduct regular medication audits and implement action plans.
* Support CNMs with direction, mentorship, regular communication, performance appraisals and professional development.
* Arrange & produce staff roster, monitor usage of temporary staff, maintain compliance with staffing levels.
* Conduct clinical audits, review documentation for quality of care and timely implementation.
* Monitor standards of cleanliness and hygiene, conduct environmental and hand hygiene audits.
* Manage risk assessments and implement risk management plans with DON.
* Audit EpicCare documentation and address any issues in collaboration with CNMs and staff nurses.
* Act as key point of contact for residents, families, multidisciplinary team and handle complaints.
* Represent the ADON role in the senior management team, ensuring high‑quality delivered care.
* Supervise staff, monitor drug rounds, handle clinical issues and provide critical information daily.
* Attend handovers, review progress of residents, support daily clinical practice.
* Implement company Health and Safety policy and safeguard safety and welfare of all.
