Reporting to: Senior Compliance Manager, ILCU Compliance Connect
Location: (Hybrid - Dublin) Based in the Republic of Ireland with potential for some infrequent travel. Weekly team meetings in the ILCU offices (ROI or NI) as agreed with the Senior Compliance Manager ILCU Compliance Connect.
Role Purpose
This role presents an individual with an exciting opportunity to work in a growing compliance & regulatory service, within an established and reputable trade and representative body for the Irish credit union sector. The Senior Compliance Advisor for ILCU Compliance Connect will work within the Compliance Connect service of the Irish League of Credit Unions. The role holder will be responsible for advising credit unions primarily in the Republic of Ireland on compliance-related matters. The role will act as a central point of contact for Management Teams, including Compliance Officers, as well as assist in the coordination of various compliance supports. A key element of the role is to provide a professional and timely service that supports Compliance Officers, but also Management Teams, to enable them to strengthen their compliance and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Regulatory Expertise: Stay abreast of all regulatory changes affecting credit unions in the Republic of Ireland, including but not limited to financial services, anti-money laundering (AML), fraud, data protection, and consumer protection regulations.
* Compliance Support: Provide high-quality and accurate compliance advice to credit unions to support the implementation of an appropriate compliance programme. Develop guidance documents, compliance policies, templates, plans, and support tools to assist credit unions in creating stronger regulatory and compliance frameworks.
* Advisory & Support Services: Offer expert advice on compliance matters, regulatory submissions, and reporting obligations. Assist credit unions in the development of compliance frameworks that are robust, scalable, and effective.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary liaison between Compliance Connect and credit unions, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders. Foster strong relationships to ensure open communication and collaboration.
* Networking and Events: Facilitate Compliance Forums and other opportunities for credit unions to discuss challenges and opportunities in keeping up with current and upstream regulatory and legislative changes. Provide guidance and advice through webinars, podcasts, and other events. Mentor new compliance officers by assisting them through education, support, and direction.
* Host Virtual Compliance Forums (VCFs) for subscribers on a monthly basis
* Reporting: Provide comprehensive reports to the Senior Compliance Manager Compliance Connect on the compliance status, issues, and developments within the credit union sector.
* Management of Direct Reports: Convene regular meetings with staff, supervise their work, ensure their training and development, carry out performance management, and monitor and administer leave and working hours.
* Participation in Events: Participate and present at Compliance Connect events and related promotional events (e.g., conferences, regional meetings, and regulatory events) as required by the Senior Compliance Manager Compliance Connect.
* Development of Documentation: Develop, maintain, and disseminate compliance template policies, procedures, and other relevant documentation to credit unions. Liaise with the Compliance Connect webmaster to ensure all compliance areas of the website are maintained.
* Support and Research: Research upstream compliance requirements for credit unions in both jurisdictions. Communicate these in the form of concise, tailored regulatory updates.
* Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance competencies necessary to perform the role and maintain any professional designations (if applicable).
Role Requirements
* Qualifications: A relevant third-level qualification in, legal, compliance, risk management, business, or financial services. A recognized compliance qualification or working towards one is highly desirable.
* Experience: Minimum of 4 years' experience in a compliance role within the financial services industry, preferably with specific experience in the credit union sector or a closely related field. A background working in anti-money laundering would be advantageous.
* Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the regulatory environment and compliance requirements for credit unions in the Republic of Ireland. Familiarity with UK and EU financial regulations is a plus.
* Skills: Excellent research and writing skills. Strong communication skills and attention to detail. Excellent relationship management and teamwork skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
* Characteristics: Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong ethical standards and a commitment to integrity.
