Job Specification Resident Civil Engineer Sector: Water & Wastewater Infrastructure Location: Cork/Kerry Type: Permanent / Contract Experience Required: Minimum 7 years Overview A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Resident Civil Engineer to oversee water and wastewater connection works for new residential and commercial developments.
The successful candidate will act as the on-site representative, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with technical standards, planning requirements and regulatory obligations.
This position suits an engineer with strong site-based civil infrastructure experience, particularly in underground utilities and water services installation.
Key Responsibilities Supervise and inspect water/wastewater connection works on behalf of the client Ensure all works comply with approved design documents, specifications and relevant Irish Water standards Oversee construction activities including pipelines, chambers, manholes, service connections and associated civil works Review contractor RAMS, ITPs and quality documentation Monitor progress, workmanship, resourcing and safety practices on site Maintain accurate daily records including inspections, test results, site diaries and as-built information Respond to technical queries and liaise with design teams when required Review and verify contractor progress payments and variation claims Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and health & safety requirements Attend and/or chair site meetings; prepare clear and concise progress reports Support testing, commissioning and final handover documentation Maintain effective communication with contractors, developers, utility providers and local authorities Experience & Qualifications Minimum 7 years experience supervising civil engineering works, ideally within water/wastewater or utilities Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (Level 8 preferred) Strong understanding of water & wastewater infrastructure and Irish Water standards Experience overseeing underground utilities, trenching, reinstatement and public infrastructure works Excellent knowledge of health & safety legislation and site compliance Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical reports Strong communication, reporting and stakeholder-management abilities Full clean driving licence required Chartered status advantageous but not essential Core Competencies Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills Proactive approach to problem-solving Professional, confident and able to manage contractors effectively Committed to safety, quality and compliance Capable of working independently while representing the consultancy professionally
