Job Description
Provide trauma-informed care to children and families, including assessment, counselling, and support for those affected by trauma. Act as a resource for child care providers, offering training and coaching to incorporate trauma-informed practices. Work with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers and healthcare providers, to ensure comprehensive care for children. Maintain confidentiality and follow proper procedures for handling sensitive information related to child trauma. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on best practices in trauma care.
Responsibilities
Meet the child and introduce the service
Accompany the child as they lodge their application for international protection at the International Protection Office (IPO)
Support the child with the questionnaire for submission to the IPO (involving sensitive topics)
Keep up to date on matters relating to international protection in Ireland, especially as they relate to children engaging with that process
Create a therapeutic environment through relationship‑building and positive interactions
Ensure staff members meet qualifications: QQI level 7 or 8 in social care, nursing, psychology, teaching, etc. Nursing qualifications must be registered with the Irish Nursing Council and recognised in Ireland
Maintain a driver’s licence suitable to drive in Ireland
Have at least 1 year experience working with adolescents who have displayed challenging behaviour (aggression, violence towards staff, property damage, suicidal ideation, running away, etc.)
Demonstrate a good understanding of Irish safeguarding legislation and be able to discuss the National Standards for children’s residential centres, HIQA 2018
Verify all overseas documents (qualification, vetting, transcripts, etc.) in the country where obtained
Speak English at an excellent standard and understand the functions of children’s residential homes

Qualifications
QQI level 7 or 8 in social care, nursing, psychology, teaching, etc.
Registered with the Irish Nursing Council if nursing qualification required
Full driver’s licence suitable for driving in Ireland
Minimum 1 year experience working with adolescents with challenging behaviour
Good understanding of Irish safeguarding legislation and HIQA 2018 National Standards
Verified overseas documents
Excellent spoken English and knowledge of children’s residential homes
MSW qualification acceptable
Compensation
Annual salary: €32,691 (approximately €16.12 per hour) for a 39‑hour work week.
