Applications are invited for a temporary part-time (0.4FTE) post of a Translational Research Unit Manager within UCD School Veterinary Medicine.
To support the team of the expanding large animal Translational Research Unit at Lyons Research Farm in advancing translational research toward impact such as the adoption of new clinical techniques, new medical devices, and new therapeutics.
Roles and responsibilities:
Support surgical procedures in large animals to the highest possible standards.
Provide pre- and post-operative care to the highest clinical and welfare standards.
Manage and maintain health control of large animal experimental herds, including breeding.
Operate efficiently the Translational Research Unit and maintain its day-to-day running.
Take legal responsibility for the management of controlled drugs.
Key qualifications and experience required:
Registerable veterinary degree with the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
Valid veterinary licence and licensed surgical credentials.
Experience executing translational large animal surgical models to the highest possible standards.
Ability to anaesthetise large animals efficiently, safely and independently.
High level of clinical expertise in health management of a large animal herd.
Knowledge of welfare parameters and standards of large animal experiments.
Experience in research project management (ethical and legal obligations).
Experience with ethical and financial audits and communication with responsible authorities.
In possession or eligible to apply for HPRA individual authorisation.
Experience in writing full ethical applications.
Proven track record in publications and grant writing.
Experience in the development of translational/preclinical research units.
Experience in sourcing and procurement of medical equipment and supplies.
Ability to motivate and transfer enthusiasm to a team.
High ethical and animal welfare standards.
Additional eligibility criteria:
Full Irish driver's licence.
Flexibility in working hours and days.
Experience in sampling and recording of data from animals.
Experience in animal welfare and care enhancement.

Salary Range: €45,000 – €85,000 per annum (pro rata at 0.4 FTE)
