Your best is waiting to be discovered.Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)Job SummaryNurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant: Responsible for coordination and management of direct and indirect patient care of children and adolescents in the Occupational Health department. Provide education and evaluation of wellness; provide health promotion, disease prevention information, education and services as well as care of acute infections, minor injuries and illnesses including evaluation, treatment and prescription of medications. In addition to providing the essential functions listed below, may be assigned other duties as required / assigned.Essential FunctionsMaster’s degree in nursing or Physician Assistant StudiesPossession of a valid, unrestricted California License as a Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.Certification by the State of California, Board of Registered Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Board – State of California as a Physician Assistant.California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number if applicableDEA Registration NumberPossession of National Provider Identification (N.P.I.) number.National Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by either the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician AssistantsExtensive nursing / nurse practitioner / physician assistant experience in Occupational HealthCertified to complete DOT exams highly desiredCurrent certification in American Heart Association BLS for healthcare provider (basic life support) required.Substantial interpersonal skills necessary to instruct patients, interact with corporate clients and insurance companies and to collaborate with health team members: Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language; Sensitivity to diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.Basic computer skills. Experience with electronic health record highly desired.Reports to: Supervising Physician(s), Occupational Health manager; Chief Nursing OfficerEmployees Supervised: Nursing staff; clinical staffDuties And ResponsibilitiesAll Nurse Practitioners/Physicians Assistants are responsible and accountable in the following areas:APP IAll current APP employees and new hire APPs at SHC with less than 2 years of APP experience start as an APP I until they are successfully promoted via the APP Career Ladder. The APP I must perform the essential functions of their position, maintain appropriate licensures, and remain in good standing with yearly performance reviews.APP IIThe APP II will have completed 2 or more full years of practice as an APP. Any new hires with greater than 2 years of experience as an APP will be deemed as APP II. The APP II must perform the essential functions of their position, maintain appropriate licensures, and remain in good standing with yearly performance reviews. For an APP applying for APP II, the APP must be employed at SHC for at least 6 months with no employment gaps to be eligible for promotion. Successful promotion to APP II will lead to a salary increase of 2%.Management Of Patient Health/Illness StatusPerform medical assessments, ordering and interpret diagnostic data, collect specimen, and point of care testing.Determine diagnosis and develop treatment plan for acute, episodic, minor illnesses and injuries in accordance with established, physician-approved and Standardized Nursing Procedures and Guidelines.Provide first aid services to the target populationsDiscuss applicable cases with physician and other health professionals for patient plan of care and community referrals.Provide printed educational materials on health related issues and insurance information.Age specific Requirements: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide/evaluate care appropriate to any age-related needs of the client served.Maintenance of medical records and appropriate documentationMaintains patient confidentiality at all times.Triages patients’ health needs/problems.Uses current evidence-based knowledge and skills in Occupational Health for the assessment, treatment, and disposition of acute and chronically ill and injured (e.g., physiologic, psychological, socio-economic, cultural) patients.Assesses patient for level of comfort (e.g., pain) and initiates appropriate interventions.Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.Orders pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.Orders and interprets electrocardiograms.Orders and interprets radiographs.Assesses response to therapeutic interventions.Documents assessment, treatment, and disposition.Functions as a direct provider of Occupational Health services.Directs and clinically supervises the work of nurses and other health care providers.Participates in internal and external emergencies, disasters, and pandemics.Acts in accordance with legal and ethical professional responsibilities (e.g., patient management, documentation).Physical Demand and Working ConditionsThe Physical Requirements and Working Conditions in which the job is typically performed are available from the Occupational Health Department.
