Our end-user fintech customer is looking to recruit a Linux Administrator to join their team. The company provides a suite of capital markets fund management solutions via a proprietary, globally distributed, cloud-based platform.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will be part of a team that is responsible for maintaining and developing their private-cloud infrastructure, with an emphasis on service availability and system security.
Role and Responsibilities
• As the Linux expert, you will own around fifty different services across areas such as Databases, Database APIs, Web Servers, FTP Servers, Email Servers etc.
• Balance BAU responsibilities with proactive project tasks
• Install, configure, and maintain internal systems in a private cloud environment
• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues
• Develop and maintain system security
• Proactively monitor and manage system capacity and performance
• Create, update and maintain technical documentation and IT policies (internal wiki)
Skills & Experience
• A genuine passion for Linux, with an appetite to continue developing skills and expertise across this domain
• Broad exposure to multiple services provided by Linux is essential i.e., across Databases, Web Servers, FTP Servers, Email Servers, etc. (if you’ve gained your Linux experience across just one type of service, this opportunity probably won’t be a fit)
• You should be a self-starter with an analytical mind and have experience with troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Experience with Linux (they use Ubuntu) and knowledge of TCP/IP networking are essential
• You will gain exposure to a wide variety of technologies that they use:
- ZFS, NFS, snapshotting, encryption
- Web server/proxy (nginx, Apache, Squid)
- FTP server
- Scripting (Shell, Python)
- Provisioning and configuration (Ansible is highly advantageous)
- Code repository (Mercurial, GitLab)
- Some Windows knowledge useful (i.e. set up a VPN, configure Windows for a laptop)
• Prior knowledge of any of the technologies above is an advantage; however, you will receive training from your team lead. An important ongoing aspect of your role will be to explore and learn new tools and technologies continually.
• Have an interest in the application of AI solutions to transform Linux environments
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work well on one’s own or in a team
• Ability to think critically a significant advantage
