The Role

The Graduate Architectural Heritage Researcher will work in the Conservation Office of the Architects Department conducting detailed research on the architectural heritage of the county, which includes historic buildings and modern structures of significance, as well as character analysis of towns and villages. The Graduate will report to the Senior Executive Architectural Conservation Officer or such other designated person(s) as may be assigned from time to time. The key focus of the role will be to undertake independent historic research on specific properties and areas to produce background research reports, statements of significance, and identify curtilage boundaries.


Review of Existing Fingal Record of Protected Structures (RPS)

* Historic/background research on individual properties
* Production of Statements of Significance for individual Protected Structures
* Drafting of Curtilage Maps (and where appropriate, identify lands that form the Attendant Grounds)
* Inputting of data into the new RPS database
* Catalogue existing Section 57 Declarations for Protected Structures


Potential Other Areas of Research

* Analysis of Surviving Historic Designed Landscapes in Fingal
* Themed Surveys (e.g., 17th and early 18th-century medium to large-sized residences, 20th-century architectural heritage)
* Research on potential additions to the Record of Protected Structures


Duties

* Conduct research on the historical development and significance of buildings, historic country estates, towns, villages, and streetscapes as instructed. Independently write and assemble historic building or area reports that outline the site's or place's special interest.
* Identify locations of relevant archival materials and conduct research at relevant institutions and archives, both in-person and online.
* Undertake on-site analysis and photographic surveys of buildings and areas.
* Write assessments of significance.
* Review and update the character analysis of towns and villages.
