Role Purpose
The Social Care Practitioner (SCP) will provide day‑to‑day personal care and support for the Residents of Delta Centre. The SCP must believe that each resident with an intellectual disability has unique contributions worth sharing with society.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure that life and experiences of each resident reflect core values of Delta Centre and that residents experience dignity and respect.
Provide opportunity for residents to make choices, contribute and learn.
Protect residents from all forms of abuse.
Review and implement Person‑Centred Plans for each resident.
Participate in regular reviews of protocols/plans of care.
Facilitate residents’ needs through appropriate communication systems.
Assist residents in reaching maximum potential in independence, communication and personal development.
Establish trusting relationships through consistency of care.
Adhere to Delta Centre policies, procedures, employee handbook and working practices.
Adhere to national policies including HIQA standards, HSE policies, safeguarding policies and statutory legislation.
Encourage and support community involvement.
Support residents to identify future aspirations and support needs, update documentation accordingly.
Lead and encourage individual person‑centred processes, ensuring best outcomes while respecting rights and choices.
Foster independence and initiative respecting age and status of each resident.
All duties to comply with statutory legislation and Delta Centre agreed policies and codes of good practice.
Report accidents and health‑and‑safety requirements per Delta Centre instructions.
Comply with fire precautions and equal‑opportunity principles.
Qualifications
Level 7 (or above) qualification in a relevant health‑related discipline such as Psychology, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Counseling/Psychotherapy, Youth and Community, Social Science/Studies, Nursing Studies, Disability Studies, Applied Behavioural Analysis, Social Pedagogy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic Studies or humanities related study.
Professional qualification in Nursing Studies or relevant disciplines as required.
Experience in the field of social care.
Proven competence in caring for adults with intellectual disabilities and genuine interest in this area.
Knowledge of legislation such as National Standards for Adults with Disabilities.
Excellent communication skills and high motivation.
Excellent record‑keeping skills.
Ability to develop positive relationships with various stakeholders.
Flexible, adaptable nature and willingness to work 24/7 shifts.
Full clean driving licence (desired).
