Software Development Manager, EC2 Deep Learning Accelerators

EC2 Accelerated Nitro is looking for a seasoned Manager of Software Development who is passionate about operating systems and hardware to lead a team of engineers with strategic business impact.
This role involves championing optimization and innovation of EC2 platforms, ensuring peak performance, scalability and robust reliability.
You will build a high-performance organization by creating a vision for your team and defining the technological roadmap in partnership with Principal Engineers, Product Managers and engineering teams that operate hardware and off-host software components across multiple locations and time zones.
A technical background in operating systems and software development, strong product planning and program management, operational excellence, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential to build trust with leadership and customers.
Utility Computing (UC) AWS Utility Computing provides product innovations—from foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2 to consistently released new product innovations that differentiate AWS services.
As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS.
Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for cloud services.
Key responsibilities
Evaluate complex business and technical requirements, and communicate inherent risks and solutions to technical and non-technical business owners.
Work closely with Product Managers and Principal Engineers to understand the bigger picture, motivate and challenge your team to reach new heights.
Create a vision for your team, focusing on timely delivery, driving operational activities and on-call rotation.
Build trust with leadership and customers through timely, succinct communication while staying aligned with technical details.
Build a high-performance organization through hiring, mentoring, skill development and performance management.
Influence other teams and leaders outside your organization, collaborate with Principal Engineers, and coordinate with teams in the same space around the world.
Day in the life
You hire the right talent to improve your team's effectiveness and capability to deliver new functionality.
You operate your team's software in production, anticipate problems, learn from mistakes, and ensure customer workloads run without disruption.
You drive your team's roadmap, create a long-term vision, collaborate with other seasoned managers in the EC2 Accelerated Nitro organization, and contribute to the overall organizational roadmap.

EC2 Accelerated Nitro has a two-fold mission:
Leave no customer workload on-premises by engineering new EC2 instance families with hardware acceleration devices.
Build the most feature-rich virtualization technology in the cloud.

Basic Qualifications
Previous experience developing software
Solid understanding of operating systems
Experience managing a software development team and applying agile development methodologies
Experience building and executing on a software product roadmap by driving projects and programs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Linux software
Understanding of critical performance areas of the operating system, and the influence of the kernel
Experience designing and implementing a software development life cycle
Experience understanding and mapping business needs to engineering requirements
