Position Overview
RSK Ireland, part of RSK Group, is recruiting a Senior Ecologist to join our growing ecology team. This is a permanent full‑time position. The role will be hybrid with flexibility to work between home site/office. Candidates can specify a location within Munster.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee medium/large projects and tenders from inception to finalisation.
Handle project finance, resource allocation, sub‑contractor management, risk and quality assurance, and maintain timely delivery and effective communication.
Mentor junior team members and coordinate ecology surveyors.
Develop a specialty team in areas such as ornithology, bats, freshwater ecology, or marine ecosystems.
Participate in continuous professional development, attending conferences and training events.
Apply expertise in ecology, legislation, and survey techniques including protected species surveys and mitigation.
Scope survey requirements and design; coordinate and undertake fieldwork for ecological impact assessments and protected species surveys (preliminary ecological appraisal, EcIA, AA screening, Natura Impact Statements, biodiversity management plans).
Produce high‑quality technical reports and data analyses to professional standards.
Review ecological reports prepared by colleagues.
Support business development by preparing quotations and maintaining client relationships.
Work independently or with regional ecologists to ensure quality projects are delivered on time.
Act as the main ecology point of contact for clients and provide solid technical advice.
Complete fieldwork, including out‑of‑hours surveys, travel, and work away from home as required.
Maintain effective communication and collaboration within the ecology team, liaising with senior ecologists and mentoring juniors.
Conduct desktop research and keep self and the team updated on relevant industry guidelines and emerging science.
Demonstrate professional integrity and sound judgement at all times.
Person Specification (essential)
Degree in ecology, zoology, biology, or environmental science.
Ideally 7+ years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Full driving licence and access to a personal vehicle.
Membership of CIEEM at a level commensurate with experience.
Ability to work well within a team and mentor junior colleagues.
Pro‑active time management and solution‑oriented approach to deliver work on time and to required standards.
