Who we want:
As a Staff R&D Embedded SW Engineer, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in planning, design, and implementation of embedded software for medical devices used by surgeons and healthcare staff to plan and perform procedures. This role is a key contributor to the embedded software development process supporting our electrosurgery portfolio.
What you will do:
Technical Responsibilities:
* Conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing
* Conduct advanced problem solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against component and sub-system requirements
* Conduct and design research and studies to support advanced product design
* Translate user needs to design inputs/specifications and produce advanced component and sub-system level designs
* Analyze and correct complex product design issues, using independent judgment
* Independently balance design tradeoffs while designing a system component
* Develop and design software systems per requirements and architecture
* Code development time/resource estimation
* Generate and review documents supporting the project (requirements, design, architecture, bugs, tests)
Business Responsibilities:
* Apply in-depth knowledge of customer needs, market, and competitive offerings to advance solutions
* Support Voice of Customer sessions with clinicians
* Demonstrate developing financial acumen
Med Device Compliance:
* Be proficient with industry standards, design requirements, and test strategies per regulations
* Lead creation and refinement of engineering documentation, such as the Design History file
* Follow and mentor others on procedures like design controls and risk management
General Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management
* Support and improve procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology
* Support complex product development through design, development, and launch
* Contribute to product development from concept to release
* Deliver high-quality results with passion and energy
* Build relationships and influence within engineering teams
* Design, develop, modify, evaluate, and verify software components for medical devices
* Conduct code reviews following design principles and standards
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
* Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering/Computer Science or related field & 4+ years of experience
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly desired):
Technical Skills:
* Programming in C and C++, designing new components with various concepts and patterns
Design and Development Skills:
* Experience with IDEs, static/dynamic analysis tools, memory management, code coverage, and microcontroller deployment (ST microcontrollers preferred)
Software Process Skills:
* Knowledge of SDLC processes, estimation, and regulatory standards
Preferred Skills / Engineering tools:
* Proficiency in embedded software development, system analysis, device driver programming, problem solving, and research to support product design.
