MEDICAL GASES ENGINEER – CONTRACTS MANAGER

Role Description
The Contracts Manager will be responsible for the overall management and delivery of multiple medical gas projects across nationwide sites. The role involves leading site teams, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and in full compliance with statutory and client requirements.
The position requires regular travel to live hospital, educational, pharmaceutical, and laboratory environments, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, client representatives, consultants, and Authorised Persons.
Key Responsibilities
Contracts & Project Delivery
* Manage multiple live MGPS projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover
* Plan and coordinate site activities to meet programme milestones and contractual obligations
* Oversee site teams, supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors across multiple locations
* Ensure scope compliance in line with drawings, specifications, and internal procedures
Site Management & Supervision
* Provide strong on-site leadership to maintain productivity, quality, and safety standards
* Carry out regular site visits, inspections, and progress reviews
* Coordinate shutdowns, isolations, phased works, and access arrangements in live environments
* Chair or attend site meetings, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Ensure all works comply with:
* Company Safety Management System
* Project-specific RAMS
* Permit-to-Work and Infection Control procedures
* Promote and enforce a zero-tolerance safety culture
* Ensure MGPS installations comply with HTM 02-01, HSE, BCGA, and client requirements
Commercial & Programme Control
* Monitor programme progress and proactively manage risks and delays
* Coordinate variations, change control, and additional works
* Support cost control, labour planning, and subcontractor performance
* Assist with forecasting and reporting project status to senior management
Quality Assurance & Handover
* Ensure installation quality meets company and client standards
* Oversee testing, commissioning support, and certification processes
* Ensure completion of:
* As-built records
* Test certificates and compliance documentation
* O&M manuals and asset data for client handover
Client & Stakeholder Liaison
* Act as a key point of contact for:
* Hospital estates teams and Authorised Persons
* Consultants and design teams
* Main contractors and other trades
* Maintain strong professional relationships while protecting contractual interests
Team Leadership & Development
* Lead, mentor, and develop site-based teams and supervisors
* Support performance management and skills development
* Promote company standards, culture, and best practice across all projects
Essential Requirements
* Trade or engineering background (Mechanical / Building Services preferred)
* Proven experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Site Manager in controlled environments
* Strong knowledge of MGPS systems and healthcare construction practices
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites and travelling workloads
* Experience working in live hospital or operational facilities
* Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
* Full clean Irish driving licence
Desirable Requirements
* Medical Gases Authorised Person (MGPS) or Competent Person experience
* Experience managing projects under public or private sector frameworks
* Strong commercial awareness and contract administration experience
* Familiarity with digital project management and reporting systems
