An organisation in the Cork/Kerry region is seeking a Fire Prevention Officer to support fire safety compliance across a range of buildings and facilities. The role involves providing expert guidance on fire‑risk management, conducting inspections, coordinating evacuation planning, and supporting safety‑related training and audits.

Your new role

* Conduct regular inspections of buildings, means of escape, fire‑fighting equipment, hydrants, and any areas presenting fire risk; ensure all equipment is correctly located, marked, maintained, and operational.

* Develop, review, and update fire orders, evacuation plans, and fire plans for a wide range of building types, including high‑risk or non‑ambulant environments.

* Provide staff instruction on fire‑safety procedures, including hazard avoidance, alarm operation, summoning emergency services, preventing smoke spread, and safe evacuation.

* Organise and oversee regular fire drills across all assigned locations, ensuring they are carried out correctly and identifying improvements.

* Monitor water‑supply adequacy for fire‑fighting purposes; ensure hydrants are identifiable and report deficiencies.

* Advise on compliance with fire‑protection standards and building regulations, ensuring correct implementation across facilities.

* Maintain detailed records of inspections, drills, equipment checks, and any incidents; provide quarterly written reports and immediate reporting of fire outbreaks or safety breaches.

* Monitor contractor safety performance and construction‑related fire risks on premises.

* Contribute to emergency‑plan development and identify/prioritise essential fire‑safety work for budget planning.

* Support accident investigations related to fire or infrastructural risk and provide formal investigation reports when required.

* Act as a fire‑safety information resource for management and staff; advise on training needs and coordinate with training providers.

* Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and performance monitoring of the organisation's safety‑management programme.

What you'll need to succeed

* Level 7 qualification in Engineering, Fire Engineering, Architecture, Health & Safety, Building Services/Surveying, or an equivalent qualification.

* Minimum 2 years' experience in a comparable Fire & Safety role.

* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

* Ability to interpret and apply fire‑protection standards, building regulations, and safety‑management principles.

* Strong communication skills with the ability to advise, train, and engage with multidisciplinary teams.

* Strong organisational skills, including record‑keeping, reporting, and coordinating inspections, drills, and audits.

* Demonstrated ability to assess, manage, and monitor fire, safety, and infrastructural risks in operational environments.
