Overview of role
The purpose of this role is to assist Radiologists and Radiographers during Magnetic Resonance (MRI), Ultrasound (US), Computed Tomography (CT), Fluoroscopic and General Radiographic examinations of patients.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out general patient care duties within Radiology Departments
Maintain a clean and hygienic working environment
Assist in maintaining agreed stock levels of consumable items
Carry out required administrative tasks
Maintain effective communication with patients and staff
Provide emotional support to anxious patients
Escort, transport and manually handle patients from dressing to exam room and wards
Prepare the examination/scan room for the next patient
Adhere to infection control policies and keep specified areas tidy, including MRI scan room
Perform administrative duties using RIS and limited HIS, scan documents, copy and digitise CDs, answer telephone enquiries
Communicate with all ages, explain procedures, report delays, liaise with wards and radiographers to prioritise patients
Participate in service audit as required
Work variable shifts as assigned to meet departmental needs
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Leaving Certificate or equivalent
Fluent in written and oral English
Desirable
FETAC Level 5 Care Assistant
Working towards CORU certification for Radiographer
Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Training Certificates
Experience & Skills
Experience in a care assistant role in a hospital or nursing home environment is beneficial but not critical
Excellent customer facing skills
Ability to work as part of a team
