Why join Stryker? Looking for a place that values your unique talents? Discover Stryker's award-winning culture. As an R&D Co-Op Student, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in the planning and design of next generation medical devices for ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) procedures. These devices help surgeons plan and perform procedures that can be life-changing. This role will support the R&D New Product Development Teams as they bring new medical devices to market.

Who we are looking for

* Dedicated Achievers. Relentless about quality, thrive in a fast-paced environment and ensure a project is complete and meets regulations and expectations.
* Motivated product launchers. Engineers who bring strategic direction and drive for execution to ensure products are developed and launched with precision.
* Goal-oriented developers. Keeping the customer and requirements in focus, deliver safe and robust solutions.
* User-focused creators. People who imagine with the user in mind, developing technology that helps change patients’ lives.
* Curious learners. People who seek out cutting-edge research to expand and enhance their ability to develop new ideas into reality.

Responsibilities

* Under supervision, assist in the design, development, and verification of electrical components for medical devices.
* Prototyping design and evaluation: contribute to designing prototypes and evaluating their performance through systematic testing.
* Benchtop testing: perform hands-on bench testing to verify electrical subsystems and assess device performance.
* Design analysis including system stack-up and component tolerances through calculations, simulations and testing.
* PCBA design including schematic and layout of rigid and flex PCBs.
* Generation of electrical prints and required files for manufacturing (Gerbers, drill files).
* Design for Excellence (DFX): assist in DFM, DFF & DFT reviews.
* Engineering documentation such as notebooks and architecture definitions.

Additional responsibilities

* Support problem-solving and root cause analysis to identify and evaluate potential solutions against defined requirements.
* Conduct research and studies to support innovative product design.

Clinical understanding

* Develop a deep understanding of relevant anatomy, pathology and treatment regarding ENT.
* Understand customers’ needs and pain points in the operating room to help improve device design and overall workflow.

Med Device Compliance

* Learn fundamental industry standards (such as IEC, IPC) and the design requirements and test strategies which align with regulatory requirements.
* With supervision, create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History File per company design control procedures.
* Learn R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.

General responsibilities

* With supervision, work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
* Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.
* Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learn while gaining experience.
* Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work.
* Build stable relationships.
* Contribute to the project as a team member.

Requirements

* Studying or completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.

Fundamental knowledge

* Understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles including passive components (RLC circuits) and filter design.
* Analog circuits including Op Amps.
* Digital circuit design.
* Familiarity with embedded systems and software through microcontrollers or Arduino-based projects.
* Basic programming languages such as C, C++, Matlab or Python.
* Basic understanding of common communication protocols (I2C, UART, CAN, SPI).
* Familiar with concepts related to electromagnetics and power electronics such as DC motors and SMPS design.

Design tools

* Exposure to eCAD tools for schematic capture and basic layout design (e.g., Altium Designer or similar).
* Awareness of circuit simulation tools (LTspice, Multisim) through coursework or projects.

Analysis skills

* Ability to perform basic analysis tasks, including understanding component tolerances and their impact on design.
* Simple statistical methods for data evaluation.

Manufacturing & materials

* Introductory knowledge of PCB design and construction and manufacturing processes (rigid, flex, rigid-flex boards).
* Awareness of Design for Excellence (DFX) concepts (basic understanding).

Documentation

* Ability to interpret basic electrical drawings and schematics.
* Exposure to preparing or understanding engineering reports and documentation through coursework or internships.

Preferred skills / tools

* Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and analysis.
* Familiarity with eCAD tools (Altium Designer, KiCad, or similar).
* Exposure to bench-testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators).
* Excellent cross-function communication skills.
* Willingness to learn new technologies.

What we can offer

* Attractive salary and vacation entitlement.
* Inclusive, people-first culture with mentors and leaders who support growth and provide feedback.
* Flexible working hours.
