Position Overview

To assist in maximising the potential of Athlone Regional Sports Centre Ltd. by positively contributing to the management team & by taking a broad interest in the Total Management Function.


Key Responsibilities

* To actively assist the Centre in continuous improvement and development of performance and quality. Whilst on duty to be responsible for equipment and safety checks first thing in the morning before public enter building and also last thing at night ensuring building is safe and secure at all times.
* To cover as a knowledgeable employee all aspects of the business when required e.g. Reception, gym, etc.
* To attend training sessions and courses as requested to maintain a high level of professional knowledge. Confidentiality must be observed at all times with regard to the General Managers request or other matters as they arise.
* To ensure that all customers & members of the centre receive an efficient friendly, consistent courteous & personalised service from all staff members.
* To assume shift management responsibility ensuring the efficient & effective day to day operation of the facility & dealing with immediate day to day To supervise, interact & communicate with staff in all areas to guaranteeing the highest level of operational effectiveness, cleanliness, hygiene, customer care and safety throughout the leisure facility, ensuring that the centre adheres to Athlone RSC policies, procedures and strategies including financial regulations and health & safety requirements.
* To attract new business and maintain current usage by developing and updating new and existing services and products. Maintain a first-rate image to all clients and positively promote the centre & its use through its services, liaising closely with all customers, schools, clubs, the local community and business groups.
* Input & assist with the Centres Health & Fitness budgets, be accountable for maintaining and operating within financial At all times operate within the financial and social constraints laid down by The Company.
* To work as part of the sport centres team and attend regular staff meetings as required. establish communication practices & channels including development and participating in departmental, team and Heads of department meetings.
* To provide a lead by example approach to your duties and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all staff,
* Responsible for the recruitment and retention of team members, along with the delivery of the company induction programme in line with company’s staff handbook & budgetary requirements, ensuring clean Garda vetting and up to date qualifications and competencies are in place throughout department staff members employment.
* Ensure performance management processes are established & appraisals undertaken in line with the companies’ guidelines to ensure effective management of staff members and to enable career development, progression and succession planning.
* Identify training and development needs on an ongoing basis through hands on support and frequent interaction with staff members.
* Ensure company policies, procedures and practices are adhered to in line with staff handbook & current employment legislation.
* Coach, mentor, train and encourage staff members to take ownership of operational responsibilities
* To be enthusiastic in assisting & motivating members to achieve their goals and in getting & staying with the fitness habit through innovative programming and effective member interaction.
* To prepare such reports and other information as may be required in connection with the use and operation of the Centre from time to time.
* To adhere to all safe work practices and procedures as outlined in the Safety Statement for the Centre.
* To be a key holder and to be responsible for the security of the building, together with the security of cash and controlled items of equipment held in storage within the building.
* Be vigilant at all times in Monitoring & Maintaining the facility (both indoors & outdoors) to the highest of standards of operation, cleanliness & hygiene at all times and take the necessary remedial action if required.
* Ensure that all Health & safety, hygiene, COSHH, NQS regulations comply with requirements and centre policies are observed by staff, members & customers to ensure their safety and well-being when using the centre.
* Deal with, follow up, and document, all Accident/Incident reports including all data is recorded and CCTV stored where appropriate.
* To practice high standards of personal hygiene at all times in terms of grooming and wearing of proper uniform.
* To maintain the centre in a good state of To liaise with the general manager to implement a programme of repairs and maintenance which protects Athlone RSC assets and meets all Health and Safety and other legislative requirements
* To ensure that the building is presented in an excellent condition and quality of cleanliness is of the highest standard at all times.

Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Company:

* In addition, each of the three Duty Manager positions have individual specific responsibilities.
* See below examples which are interchangeable depending on individual skills and competencies:
o Pool Based – Pool Bookings, Timetables, Pool Rosters, Chemical Supplies, Pool Plant, Water quality, Maintenance Log etc


Practical Skills

* Must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and managerial skills
* Must have the ability to delegate, mentor and follow up with staff to make sure tasks are completed correctly
* Must have the ability to independently identify areas for improvement within the facility and in centre operations and action these areas accordingly
* Must have sound knowledge & understanding of financial management including income & expenditure and profit & loss accounts
* Must have good communication skills written and verbal Must have good Information Technology skills
* Must be aware of the political, economic, social and technological environment
