Duration: 11-month contract
Probationary Period: 3 months
Salary: €25 per hour (gross)
Hours: Full time basis (35 hours per week).
Reporting to: Cairde na hEaragaile CLG board & Rhododendron Project Manager
Location: Outdoor work environment (Dunlewey Area)

The Project
Cairde na hEaragaile CLG is working with the LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature (WAN) and others in this community- led project which aims to extend the current rhododendron control programme within the Cloghernagore Bog and Glenveagh National Park SAC, Fawnbog Bog/Lough Nacung SAC and to targeted areas within the Dunlewey and Errigal area. It also seeks to expand local capacity to implement other peatland restoration actions and path maintenance on Errigal
Job Description
Cairde na hEaragaile CLG seeks to recruit a Field Operative Supervisor to oversee a team of field operatives to work on Invasive Species Control, Bog Restoration and Path Maintenance in Northwest Donegal, particularly the Dunlewey area.
Responsibilities:
* · Lead and supervise a team of field operatives engaged in, controlling invasive species, Peatland Restoration and path maintenance on Errigal.
* · Coordinate daily work assignments, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
* · Provide guidance to field operatives on proper techniques for rhododendron control, stem injection, and other relevant tasks.
* · Oversee the implementation of NPWS preferred methods and safety protocols for invasive species management.
* · Monitor project progress and quality of work, addressing any issues or deviations from established procedures.
* · Liaise with the Project Facilitator and the Project Coordinator on a daily basis.
* · Assist the Project Coordinator in identifying training requirements for the team.
* · Maintain accurate records of work activities, including equipment usage, chemical application, and project milestones.
* · Liaise with farmers, landowners, and other stakeholders to coordinate project logistics and address any concerns.
* · Assist the project coordinator in the development and implementation of work plans, budgets, and risk assessments.
* · Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
* · Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, encouraging professional development and teamwork among staff members.
* · Conduct daily outdoor operations primarily focused on controlling rhododendron using chainsaws and herbicide application. (Utilise NPWS preferred method of stem injection for rhododendron control.)
* · Perform tasks related to the control of other invasive species as required.
* · Perform tasks related to peatland restoration as required
* · Perform tasks related to path building and maintenance as required.
* · Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while operating equipment and handling chemicals.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
* Experience in outdoor work environments and operating chainsaws preferred.
* Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in outdoor conservation or land management.
* Full, clean category B driving license with own transport and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
Desirable
* Experience of working on a farm/garden maintenance
* Knowledge of invasive species control methods, particularly stem injection techniques, is advantageous.
* Knowledge of peatland restoration techniques
* Knowledge of path building and maintenance techniques
* Safe Pass
* Manual Handling certificate
* Proficiency in safety protocols and regulations related to outdoor work and chemical handling.
* Chainsaw certification (CS30 and/or CS31)
* ·Pesticide spraying certification (PA1 and PA6A)

* Physically fit for working outdoors and in rugged terrain in various weather conditions.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, problem-solve, and make sound decisions under pressure.
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Motivated and enthusiastic
Desirable
* Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and procedures.
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
* Irish speaker
