JOB PURPOSE:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Sn Toolmaker/Jnr Tooling Engineer to join our fast-paced injection moulding operation. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting new and existing tooling, driving continuous improvement, and acting as a technical interface between customers, toolmakers, and internal teams.
This role requires a candidate with a hands-on approach and strong technical knowledge of injection moulding. They ideal candidate must demonstrate resilience and problem-solving and have the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
The successful candidate should be results-oriented, with strong numerical, information management and analytical skills. It is essential that the candidate is capable of work under pressure and on his/her own initiative.
This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis (subject to a six-month probation period).
The work of the Snr Toolmaker/Jnr Tooling Engineer will be carried out in line with the company's core working week. Flexibility in relation to working hours is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality:
* Support the full lifecycle of injection mould tools, from design review and manufacture through to validation and production release.
* Troubleshoot tooling and process-related issues, identifying root causes and implementing robust corrective actions.
* Lead and support tooling trials, first-off inspections, and tool validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ where applicable).
* Liaise with external toolmakers to manage modifications, repairs, and preventative maintenance. The above list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out other duties which may reasonably be assigned by management.
* Work closely with production, quality, and process engineering teams to ensure tools perform reliably in a high-volume environment.
* Provide technical support to customers, including participation in technical reviews, trials, and problem resolution meetings.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling performance, cycle time, quality, and cost .
* Maintain accurate tooling documentation, validation reports, and change records.
* Ensure tooling activities comply with company procedures, quality standards, and health & safety requirements.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Strong knowledge of injection moulding processes, materials, and tooling principles.
* Proven experience with toolmaking issues such as wear, venting, gating, cooling, flash, and dimensional variation.
* Hands-on problem-solving ability with a structured and analytical approach.
* Experience with tooling validation and production handover.
* Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally.
* Ability to work on own initiative, manage workload effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
* Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
DESIRABLE
* Formal engineering qualification or time-served toolmaking background
* Experience in high-volume or automotive / medical / packaging injection moulding environments
* Knowledge of continuous improvement tools (e.g. FMEA, SPC, 8D)
