Theatre Nurse Anaesthetic and Recovery - UPMC Aut Even
Location: Aut Even Hospital – Job type: Fixed Term
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Nursing and Multidisciplinary team in the operating theatre suite and endoscopy suite, providing evidence-based care to patients undergoing surgery. The role covers theatre, endoscopy, anaesthetics and recovery, within a range of specialties including general surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, ENT, orthopaedics, plastics, urology, and vascular surgery.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Professional Responsibilities
* Practice according to the Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Clinical Guidelines set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
* Adhere to Aut Even Hospital Guidelines, Policies and Protocols.
* Work within scope of practice and actively develop and maintain a high standard of professional behaviour.
* Provide a caring, efficient, and highly professional nursing service to all patients in care.
* Respect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
* Coordinate management of the ward area in absence of the CNM I/CNM II.
* Serve as a mentor/buddy to facilitate orientation and development of new staff.
Clinical Practice
* Actively participate in anaesthetics, scrub, circulating, PACU, and endoscopy duties as required.
* Prepare and manage equipment and instruments in line with patient needs and consultant preferences.
* Assist in smooth and effective running of the Endoscopy Unit and assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
* Ensure effective teamwork by communicating collaboratively with multidisciplinary team for continuity of care.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills within endoscopy and the nursing profession.
* Prepare patients for endoscopy procedures under sedation or general anaesthesia.
* Maintain aseptic techniques during surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving.
* Ensure compliance with controlled drug records, counting procedures, and correct drug administration.
* Supervise junior nursing staff and contribute to educational aspects of nursing practice.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
* Basic Life Support Training.
* Minimum 2 years Theatre Nursing experience.
* Relevant Theatre qualification (advantageous).
