Appointment will be made on Healthcare Assistant Scale (€35,434 - €44,539) at a point in line with Government pay policy.
Hours of work:
Full Time 39 hours per week on a 5/7 roster

The activities coordinator role is an important one because it plays an essential role in enhancing the quality of life for residents through meaningful engagement and social interaction.
An activities coordinator designs and implements a variety of activities that are tailored to the interests and needs of individuals.
Responsibilities
Planning Activities
The activities coordinator plans activities tailored to the abilities, preferences, and interests of residents.
Activities can include physical exercises such as yoga, walking groups, or dance sessions; cognitive exercises like board games, memory games, and quizzes; group games, arts and crafts, music therapy, and film viewings.
They will plan special events around holidays, birthdays, or significant cultural dates, such as Christmas celebrations, summer picnics, or Halloween parties.
Complete an activity assessment of new residents upon admission.
Promoting Social Interaction
Encourages socialisation to reduce loneliness and isolation.
May establish clubs based on hobbies (e.g., gardening, reading, knitting) and involve family members in events such as family days or celebrations.
Supporting Residents' Wellbeing
Focuses on gentle physical exercise to promote mobility, coordination, and fitness; provides cognitive stimulation and emotional support through group sessions or one-on-one interactions.
Assists with transfer of residents to and from activities and assists residents during dining times.
Managing External Visitors and Entertainment
Arranges external performers (e.g., musicians, entertainers) and works with volunteers to assist with activities or provide companionship.
Reporting
Evaluates resident responses to activities and gathers feedback to adjust offerings.
Ensures activities are conducted safely and in line with health guidelines.
Reports any changes in residents' condition to nursing staff, reports absences to the CNM 3, and requests annual leave through the CNM3.
Works Monday to Sunday (39 hrs per week).
Collaborating with Other Caregivers
Liaises with nurses and carers to ensure activities align with individual care plans, including awareness of physical limitations or challenges with eating.
Supports trainees and students in learning opportunities.
Special Considerations for Residents with Dementia or Alzheimer's
Adapts activities to cognitive abilities; offers reminiscence therapy; creates sensory-stimulating experiences.
Mandatory Training
Ensures all mandatory training is up to date.

Qualifications
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
Possess a relevant Health Skills qualification as outlined in QQI/National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), not less than QQI Level 5.
Possess a relevant Healthcare qualification at not less than QQI Level 5 on the NFQ.
Be currently undertaking a relevant Health Skills QQI Level 5 qualification with a commitment to complete within 2 years of taking up post.
Be currently employed as a Healthcare Assistant, Care Assistant, Attendant, Multi-Task Attendant or in a comparable role for at least 2 years and undertake to acquire a Health Skills qualification at not less than QQI Level 5 within 2 years of taking up post.
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the role, including a high standard of suitability.
Health
A candidate must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health indicating a reasonable prospect of regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate must be of good character.
Note:
With regard to Criterion
(i), the following QQI Level 5 Health Skills qualifications are relevant:
QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support
QQI Level 5 Nursing Studies
QQI Level 5 Community Care
QQI Level 5 Health Service Skills
QQI Level 5 Community Health Services
QQI Level 5 Activities of Daily Living
*(A full QQI/FETAC 5 Major award requires a minimum of 120 credits/8 modules; a component certificate will not suffice.)
Relevant examples of Qualification
(ii) include applied patient care modules/placements typically in Social Care Work, Nursing, Therapy Professions, etc.
Mandatory:
Mandatory modules that must be completed as part of the 8 modules are:
Communication
Care Skills
Infection, Prevention & Control
Activities of Daily Living
(List of completed modules must be listed on your CV).
Desirable
Previous experience as an activity assistant or coordinator is an advantage.
1 year working in a Care Environment or in Care of the Older Person within a residential care setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
An intuitive knowledge of the interests and needs of older people.
Good knowledge of HIQA Standards.
A proactive, problem-solving attitude with strong organisational skills.
Teamwork and flexibility; commitment to undertake further training.
