Our planned new state-of-the-art
Women's Health Centre
will combine a comprehensive range of services under one roof, in a prominent Dublin City Centre location.
From expert consultations, diagnostic testing to specialized treatments, we will support women through their healthcare journey.
Role Purpose
The role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of nursing practice.
As a key member of the frontline team, the general registered nurse will demonstrate strong clinical skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital and centre.
The position requires a collaborative and supportive approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the implementation of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Knowledge/Experience
Be registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI
Have at least two years recent relevant post-registration nursing experience (full-time or equivalent hours part-time) in an acute hospital setting, with one year in a surgical setting.
Hold an up-to-date Basic Life Support course.
Experience in Theatre, Urology, Gynaecology or Endoscopy is desirable.
Additional competencies include: clinical knowledge and reasoning, evidence-based practice, safe and effective nursing care, planning and organization, teamwork, communication, empathy and respect, and commitment to ongoing professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Clinical Guidelines
Work within scope of practice and maintain competence for professional practice
Support Clinical Nurse Specialists in the development of the Gynaecology, Urology and Breast Health units
Offer advice and support to patients and their families
Ensure patients attending the Women's Health Centre are fully informed and provided with verbal and written information
Collaborate with consultants to develop care pathways and implement best practice guidelines
Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour and accountability for practice
Be aware of ethical policies and procedures relevant to practice
Respect patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality
Follow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management structure
Clinical Practice
Deliver nursing care for an assigned group of patients within a best practice / evidence-based framework
Manage a designated caseload
Promote health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients
Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in service delivery including case conferences and meetings
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate person-centred care programmes
Develop good interpersonal relationships with patients and their families
Ensure care is empathetic, ethical and respects patient dignity and spiritual needs
Support links with local community and discharge planning
Provide education and information to patients and families and act as advocate
Report and consult with senior nursing management on clinical issues
Maintain accurate nursing records and participate in clinical audits
Promote health concepts and contribute to health promotion initiatives
Clinical Governance
Participate in clinical governance structures within local/regional/national frameworks
Have knowledge of HIQA and JCI standards
Contribute to monitoring, audit and evaluation of the service
Record and report complaints according to policy
Develop policies and guidelines to ensure legal and safe practice
Adhere to health and safety, risk management and infection control guidelines
Provide leadership in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager
Education, Training & Development
Take responsibility for own competency and development
Complete mandatory training as required by the Director of Nursing and NMBI
Participate in performance evaluation and develop improvement plans
Engage in reflective practice and development of performance indicators
Administration
Safeguard and manage records per policy and legislation
Coordinate with colleagues to provide seamless service delivery
Maintain records and report activity data
Contribute to policy development, performance monitoring and budgetary control
Maintain professional standards including patient and data confidentiality
Develop information sharing protocols, audit systems, and care plans
Ensure care setting is maintained with available supplies and equipment in good working order
Report malfunctions and assist with ordering supplies
Undertake other duties as required and support sustainability initiatives
