Overview
Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations – AWS
AWS is introducing the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to join the AWS Managed Operations team. You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services for EU customers, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock. Responsibilities
* Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams and contributing to the evolution of AWS services and technology.
* Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
* Participate in occasional on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside normal hours.
* Deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers.
* Develop and test scripts to improve workflows and contribute to operational backlog reduction.
* Educate service teams about the European Sovereign Cloud and share insights to foster mutual understanding.
* Engage in continuous learning and improvement to contribute to the team’s and system’s reliability.
What You Will Work With
Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services within AWS UC, focusing on security solutions for cloud services for EU customers.
Eligibility and Geography
* Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
* Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU.
* A relocation package is available within the European Union.
* Employees will participate in an On-Call rota.
Basic Qualifications
* EU national status is required.
* Demonstrated systems engineering experience with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
* Experience scripting with Bash, Python, or Ruby.
* Solid Linux and networking knowledge; ability to troubleshoot and anticipate issues affecting performance, reliability, or availability.
* Ability to create, revise, and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).
* Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-organizational efforts.
* Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud environments.
* Experience operating 24x7 high-availability distributed applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.).
