Job Title: Telecommunications Engineer
About the Role:
As a Field Engineer with a leading telecoms company, you will play a vital role in delivering top-tier engineering infrastructure and technical services to customers and end clients. This position requires a high level of technical competence and a commitment to maintaining Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Field Deployment & Maintenance: Provide first-line support for deployment and maintenance activities, including new build tasks, responding to maintenance calls within Service Level Agreements, fault finding, and hardware replacement with Technical Assistance Centre assistance.
2. Installation & Commissioning: Perform installation and commissioning duties in project and maintenance environments.
3. Timely Response: Ensure timely intervention to meet Service Level Agreement requirements.
4. On-Call Support: Participate in the on-call rota for out-of-hours support.
5. Communication: Keep updated records and provide feedback to Line and Project Managers.
6. Documentation: Complete all required paperwork within Service Level Agreements.
7. Technical Tasks: Fault finding, metalwork installation, fibre and cable pulling, copper termination, and testing.
8. Risk & Safety: Manage Risk Assessment and Method Statement documentation; maintain SHEQ standards.
9. Skill Development: Develop fault diagnosis skills using Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry and Ethernet/OSA testing.
10. Vendor Products & Audits: Install vendor-supplied products and manage Health, Safety, and Environment audits.
11. Customer Satisfaction & Ownership: Ensure deployment success and take ownership of faults until resolution.
Requirements:
- Qualified and experienced in telecoms infrastructure, with hands-on installation and commissioning skills.
- Proficient in fibre splicing and familiar with equipment from Nokia, Juniper, Tellabs, Infinera, and Ciena.
- CSCS/ECS certification is required.
- Excellent communication, report writing skills, and ability to work under pressure are essential.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Visio is necessary.
- A full UK Driving Licence is also required.
