COMPANY ACCOUNTANT
Role Overview
We are an advisory-focused accountancy practice seeking a qualified accountant to join our team.
This role sits between the requirements of practice and industry. You will work closely with small and medium sized clients, acting as their outsourced finance lead, producing high-quality monthly management accounts and providing clear financial insight to support decision-making at owner, management and board level.
The role requires strong technical ability, excellent communication skills, and the discipline to meet strict month-end deadlines, while operating with a high degree of personal initiative and ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Monthly Management Accounts (Core Product)
Preparation and delivery of accurate, timely month-end accounts for a portfolio of clients, including:
* Monthly Profit & Loss Account
* Monthly Balance Sheet
* Debtors (Aged Receivables) Listing
* Creditors (Aged Payables) Listing
* VAT Reconciliation
* PAYE / Payroll Reconciliation
* Monthly Cashflow Forecast, including cash position for the month ahead
All month-end work must be completed in line with agreed deadlines to facilitate scheduled client finance/management/board meetings.
Budgeting & Forecasting
* Preparation of an annual rolling budget
* Supporting budgeted Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow
* Updating forecasts during the year to reflect trading performance
* Scenario and sensitivity analysis where required
Client Advisory & Meetings
* Preparing clear, decision-ready financial packs for:
* Monthly finance meetings
* Management meetings
* Board meetings
* Attending and contributing to monthly meetings, explaining results in plain, commercial language
* Proactively identifying financial risks, opportunities, and performance trends
* Supporting clients with cash management, working capital, and financial planning
General & Practice Responsibilities
* Managing your own workload and deadlines with minimal supervision
* Maintaining high standards of documentation and audit trail
* Working collaboratively with internal bookkeeping, payroll, and tax teams
* Contributing to continuous improvement of internal processes and templates
