Drone Pilot and Quality Assurance

Confined Space Survey Operations

Are you very good at flying Drones, operating flight SIMs and playing FPV computer games? Are you passionately interested and skilled at technology? If so, here is an opportunity for you

Subterranean Software develops advanced software for drones that survey underground and confined-space infrastructure such as drains, sewers, and water systems. We work closely with drone manufacturers, water utilities, and engineering contractors to deliver safe, efficient, data-driven inspection solutions.

We are seeking a skilled drone pilot to conduct test flights and live survey missions in confined environments. This is a full-time role, located in Buncrana Co. Donegal. This is a hands-on, technical role suited to someone who enjoys precision flying, problem-solving, and working at the intersection of robotics development and flying missions.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct test and survey flights in coordination with developers, surveyors, and field partners.
* Prepare detailed flight and mission reports to support development and quality assurance.
* Assist in product testing, identifying defects, and contributing to performance improvements.
* Carry out risk assessments and ensure full compliance with flight and safety regulations.
* Maintain and prepare equipment, including cleaning and inspection of confined-space drones.

Skills and Competencies

Technical Skills

* Strong flying proficiency, manual and autonomous flight
* Experience with FPV drones
* Maintenance and basic repair of drones
* User Experience Awareness, Able to give practical feedback on clarity, navigation, and usability from a user's point of view.

Computing & Reporting

* Competence in data processing, and report generation.
* Strong technical literacy, able to interface with developers, surveyors, and clients.
* Proficiency with common productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar) for documentation and reporting.

Safety & Compliance

* Understanding of risk assessment and method statements (RAMS).
* Experience conducting pre-flight checks, maintaining flight logs, and following safety protocols.
* Awareness of local aviation authority guidelines (CAA, EASA, IAA, etc.).

Soft Skills

* Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and situational awareness.
* Effective written and verbal communication, able to produce mission and test reports.
* Comfortable working in field conditions (remote sites, confined spaces, variable weather).
* Independent and reliable, many operations are solo or small-team.
* Comfortable working with developers and management to give structured, constructive feedback.

About You

* Practical, adaptable, and safety-focused, enjoys challenges and hands-on problem-solving.
* Full driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across Ireland and the UK. You must be prepared to travel up to twice per week.
* Legal right to work in both Ireland and the United Kingdom.

While being a trained and registered drone pilot with the IAA is preferred, we're happy to provide training for the right candidate
