Role Title:Clinical Nurse Manager II: Nursing Quality Lead on Falls and Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Management (Nursing Practice Development Unit) Job Reference Number:001387 Closing Date:Sunday, 6th July 2025 Purpose of the Role: The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard of patient focused nursing care through leading and managing quality projects, ensuring compliance with national, international, and best practice standards in relation to nursing care through clinical audit reviews directly related to pressure ulcer and falls prevention and management. Key Duties and Responsibilities Quality/Practice Development In conjunction with the Nursing Practice Development Co-Ordinator, Nursing Practice Development Unit (NPDU) team, Nurse Exec team, and relevant stakeholders, participate and contribute to St Jamess Hospital (SJH) Nursing Strategic Priorities in relation to falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Research, develop, and implement clinical and operational performance indicators in line with SJHs Performance Indicator Programme, Health Service Executive (HSE), and Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA). Lead on and support nursing and collaborative quality improvement projects in SJH on falls and pressure ulcer management and present findings to clinical staff. Conduct and engage in audit at clinical level on falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Ensure audit findings are disseminated and utilised in the delivery of evidence based patient care. Utilise clinical audit outcomes on falls and pressure ulcer data to improve service provision for both patients and services. Benchmark audit and research findings on falls and pressure ulcers data against national and international evidence and best practice. Act as a resource for clinical information and encourage staff to analyse information and develop clinical decision-making skills based on available information. In conjunction with Clinical Nurse Managers (CNMs) and Clinical Support Nurses/Clinical Facilitators, take an active role in the audit of clinical practice projects and the standards of care being provided. Assist relevant nursing teams in the development and implementation of actions/recommendations as appropriate. Provide information technology expertise/support/training (relevant specifically to audit/quality improvement) to relevant nursing staff. Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of education and resources for falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Support the delivery of education to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management to ensure implementation of the agreed pathways of care and to assist with the reduction of adverse incidences. Work with existing structures within the NPDU and clinical areas with a view to developing a continuous quality improvement strategy/culture in the delivery of patient care. Support existing quality initiatives at clinical and corporate level by liaising with QSID and the wider MDT on falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Engage proactively with the Hospital Accreditation Programme in the initiation and rolling out of ongoing quality improvement plans related to falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Work with relevant stakeholders (both internal and external to SJH) to incorporate the views of patients in relation to quality improvement on falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. In collaboration with the CNM III and/or Tissue Viability CNSs participate in case reviews and explore findings of falls and pressure ulcer reviews to assist decision making reviews with MDT colleagues. In collaboration with the CNM III and/or Tissue Viability CNSs, carry out systems analysis and co-design action plans in accordance with findings for future practice changes, ensuring learning is shared throughout the organisation. Work with the relevant Quality Safety Risk Sub-Committee members in the development and rollout of the evidence based PPPGs related to falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. The Clinical Nurse Manager II must adhere to the Code of Professional Practice and Behaviours for Registered Nurses. Is aware of and understands the need to adhere to Hospital and/or professional standards, policies, and procedures, relevant to their area of practice. Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety as outlined in the Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005 and the Hospital Safety Statement. Communication Create and promote open communications and healthy working relationships among all team members in the attainment of optimal patient care related to falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Be flexible and organise own workload efficiently and be able to self-manage. Develop a network of contacts and communication links with other professionals in these specialised fields of practice. Attend managerial, multidisciplinary, and clinical meetings which require specialist input. Communicate effectively with the Nursing Practice Development Co-Ordinator, Directorate Nurse Managers, CNMs, and the relevant Quality Safety Risk Management (QSRM) Sub-Committees regarding the progress and development of quality initiatives within their area of responsibility. Participate in formalised working groups/committees which exist at NPDU and corporate level in relation to the ongoing development of clinical governance and the Hospital clinical audit programme in relation to falls and pressure ulcer prevention and management. Be diplomatic and aware of the boundaries within which theNursing Quality Lead in Falls and Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Managementoperates and manage situations in a non-confrontational and constructive manner. Communicates effectively in English language, written, and spoken, as appropriate to job requirements. Personal & Professional Development Be responsible for updating own professional development and own required learning (relative to the position) is kept up to date. Practice within SJH policies and procedures, code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, and Scope of Professional Practice. Required: Registered General Nurse with The Nursing Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligible to register. 5 years post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting or relevant clinical area within the last 7 years. Demonstrate management experience throughout the last 2 years. Degree in Nursing/Postgraduate Diploma or Higher Diploma in Clinical Practice (or other relevant Higher Diploma). Demonstrate I.T. skills including excellent keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience in teaching and assessing the nursing and HCA team throughout the last 2 years. Experience in conducting clinical audits. Desired: Management course. Working knowledge of healthcare patient record systems. Experience in utilising incident management systems. Involvement in quality improvement initiatives.
