We are seeking an experienced
Senior Cloud-Ops Database Administrator
to join a growing technology organisation within a cloud-based ESG solutions sector.
The role is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of production application databases across both cloud and on-premise environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced database professional to lead initiatives in automation, disaster recovery, and performance tuning, while collaborating closely with engineering and product teams to drive innovation and scalability in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the architecture, administration, and maintenance of production infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments.
* Oversee database operations, including installation, maintenance, upgrades, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
* Manage backup, archiving, and disaster recovery procedures, ensuring resilience and data integrity.
* Design and execute release pipelines and coordinate product releases with development teams.
* Implement and maintain system monitoring, observability, and automation frameworks to improve uptime and performance.
* Collaborate with Cloud-Ops Engineers and Security & Compliance teams to enforce governance and regulatory standards.
* Contribute to cloud migration and optimisation projects, ensuring alignment with best practice and cost-efficiency.
* Support audits and maintain compliance with internal and external frameworks.
Required Skills & Experience
* 6+ years' experience in Database Administration or Cloud Operations within enterprise or SaaS environments.
* Strong hands-on experience with MS SQL Server, Azure SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
* Proven expertise in performance tuning, high availability (Always On / availability groups), backup and recovery, and disaster recovery.
* Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
* Familiarity with automation tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).
* Strong understanding of security, data governance, and compliance principles.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with Snowflake, ETL/ELT pipelines, or data engineering concepts.
* Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, or other containerisation technologies.
* Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic, CloudWatch, or Datadog.
* Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate administrative tasks.
