Offer description

Offer Description
The Dogger Bank—historically one of the most biologically productive regions of the North Sea—has undergone severe ecological degradation due to long-term prioritisation of economic activities.
Centuries of intensive fishing, heavy shipping traffic, and more recent oil and gas extraction have significantly altered its ecosystems.
Rewilding Dogger Bank aims to restore space for nature within the Dogger Bank Marine Protected Area (MPA) through passive protection and the active restoration of biogenic shellfish reefs using the native, keystone bivalve
Modiolus modiolus
(horse mussel).
The appointed post-doctoral researcher will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr José M. Fariñas Franco, an international expert in M. modiolus ecology and shellfish reef restoration.
The role will help identify and implement the most effective strategies for restoring M. modiolus reefs on the Dogger Bank.
Minimum of PhD in marine ecology, biology, zoology or a related discipline.
Good track record in organising and conducting offshore marine ecology survey projects.
Must have a valid authorisation to reside, work and travel freely in the European Union for the duration of the post.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Full, clean driving licence valid for use in Europe.
Good track record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and writing experience.
Be able to work independently in remote, coastal environments and to travel extensively across Europe to spend time at partner institutions.
Excellent skills in oral and written communication and organisation, with demonstrable ability to meet deadlines.
Confident in statistical analysis with R/Python/Matlab or similar.
