Purpose
The purpose of the role is to coordinate and facilitate the Alzheimer Support and activity group, providing information, support and activities for people with dementia.
Responsibilities
* Act as an introductory point of contact for people with dementia, carers, families and community representatives.
* Build trusting relationships with all stakeholders to ensure they feel secure and welcome.
* Respect the rights, dignity and confidentiality of all attendees.
* Coordinate and facilitate the support and activity group in line with ASI guidelines.
* Ensure sufficient quantity and range of service literature is available and accessible.
* Adhere to service provision guidelines, Health and Safety policies and procedures set out by the ASI.
* Assist in promoting a positive and safe environment for all attendees.
* Set up and prepare the room/facility prior to service.
* Adopt a person‑centred approach at all times and ensure staff/volunteers do likewise.
* Induct volunteers in line with the volunteer policy.
* Maintain a register of all attendees.
* Supervise staff/volunteers and delegate duties when required.
* Provide detailed attendance figures to help establish service demands.
* Lodgement of any donations received from attendees to the designated bank account.
* Maintain required record systems relating to management of the service and make them available to National Office and Service Manager.
* Ensure fair and consistent application of all Society policies and procedures and compliance with GDPR.
* Escalate any health and safety issues or safeguarding concerns as required.
* Report issues, queries and concerns to the line manager.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in a similar role.
* Experience in health, social or disability care.
* Experience working with people living with dementia.
* QQI Level 5 (or equivalent) desirable.
* Training in dementia, care of the elderly or related area an advantage.
* Strong computer and IT/email skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
* Accuracy, attention to detail and conscientious approach to work.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding staffing, volunteer and client matters.
Benefits
This is a permanent contract working 5 hours per month. Salary will be commensurate with the care sector and dependent on relevant experience.
