Summary Of Duties
We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Sustainability Manager to join our Galway-based medical device manufacturing site. This key leadership role drives a best‑in‑class safety culture while leading our sustainability and environmental initiatives in a highly regulated FDA‑inspected environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Compliance
Lead and continuously improve the site’s EHS strategy in line with corporate and regulatory requirements
Ensure compliance with Irish HSA regulations, EU Directives, and global standards
Maintain and develop ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
Act as EHS lead during audits and inspections (FDA, Notified Body)
Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
Manage daily, weekly, and monthly EHS reporting and metrics for the facility
Coordinate and manage EHS induction and training programmes for all site personnel
Manufacturing & Operational Safety
Support a multi‑shift, high‑volume manufacturing environment
Lead risk assessments across cleanrooms, automation, and chemical handling
Ensure safe execution of engineering projects, expansions, and contractor activities
Sustainability & ESG Leadership
Drive site sustainability initiatives aligned with corporate ESG goals
Lead programs to reduce energy, waste, and water usage
Support sustainability reporting (e.g., CSRD, internal ESG metrics)
Promote circular economy and environmentally responsible practices
Culture & Leadership
Build a proactive, engagement‑driven safety culture
Partner with site leadership to embed accountability at all levels
Lead a team of EHS specialists, ensuring growth and development
Deliver training and awareness programs across EHS and sustainability
Continuous Improvement
Integrate EHS into Lean and operational excellence initiatives
Analyse performance data and drive improvements through KPIs
Identify opportunities to enhance safety and environmental performance
Qualifications
Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline
7+ years’ experience in EHS within a regulated manufacturing environment
Experience in an FDA‑regulated or highly regulated industry is highly desirable
Proven track record in leading sustainability or ESG initiatives
Strong knowledge of Irish and EU EHS legislation
Experience with cleanroom or high‑volume manufacturing environments
Excellent leadership, influencing, and communication skills
Highly motivated team player with strong collaboration skills
Data‑driven approach with a continuous improvement mindset
Experience with EHS systems (e.g., Enablon, Intelex)
