Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.
As part of the Bi Orbic Research Ireland Centre for Bioeconomy, this project Pasture Future will integrate ancient and modern livestock genomics with functional genetic data to identify variants that can improve sustainability and productivity in livestock including sheep, goats, and cattle.
The project combines ancient genomes from the ERC-funded HERDPATH project with large-scale modern genetic datasets and functional genetics now available to trace the evolutionary history of production and sustainability traits over 10,000 years.
Using selection analyses, the research will identify genetic variants associated with production efficiency and sustainability traits (such as methane emissions) with the aim of informing genomic breeding programs.
The successful candidate will create a comprehensive livestock genomic database and produce breeding recommendations to support climate-neutral animal agriculture.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
POST DOC LEVEL 1: Salary: €46,305 per annum.
