A highly experienced Principal Instrumentation & Calibration Engineer is required to join a global Biotech business in Limerick. This is a senior engineering position within the Maintenance & Reliability function of a leading manufacturing site. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership, subject matter expertise, and regulatory assurance in relation to instrumentation, calibration, and reliability engineering.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn and manage the site calibration programme, ensuring compliance with health authorities and regulatory requirements.Provide technical leadership across all instrumentation systems, including reliability, equipment obsolescence, upgrades, deviations, and investigations.Lead reliability improvement programmes, analysing predictive and condition-based monitoring data to ensure maximum equipment availability.Support capital and re-capitalisation projects, including equipment specification, selection, and lifecycle management.Liaise with regulatory authorities during audits, representing the site as the SME for instrumentation and calibration.Develop and maintain SOPs, job plans, and technical documentation in line with global engineering standards.Deliver training and support to the Maintenance team on new equipment, technologies, and calibration standards.Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen maintenance and reliability programmes.Candidate ProfileLevel 8 Degree in Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent).Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance or engineering role, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry.Strong knowledge of EU directives (e.g. ATEX) and relevant engineering standards (IEC, ISO, NSAI, NEC, etc.).Proven expertise in leading, developing or rolling out a site calibration programme.Excellent communication, report writing, and leadership skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently, influence change, and drive results in a regulated environment.What This Role OffersA senior role with strategic influence across maintenance and reliability operations.Opportunity to work in a world-class pharmaceutical facility with cutting-edge technologies.Competitive salary and benefits package.A collaborative environment where safety, quality, and continuous improvement are prioritised.For further details please contact; Paula O’Reilly on 087 7094141 or send CV in confidence to paula.oreilly@lifescience.ie
