Cost Estimator Role
Our client, a leading Mechanical & Electrical contracting company in Ireland, is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to join their expanding team.
This crucial role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems in engineering projects across various sectors. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and a detail-oriented approach to tendering and pre-construction planning.
* Key duties and responsibilities:
1. Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and schedules to develop accurate cost estimates.
2. Complete quantity take-offs and prepare detailed, marked-up drawings.
3. Develop costed Bills of Quantities (BOQs), tender pricing schedules, and reports for submission.
4. Issue RFIs and tender queries to clarify project scope and requirements.
5. Assess and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
6. Identify value engineering options to enhance project efficiency and reduce costs.
7. Maintain and manage a comprehensive pricing and estimating database.
8. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to align estimates with project goals.
9. Attend pre-tender meetings and conduct site visits as required.
10. Prepare and present competitive bid proposals to management and clients.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and qualifications:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Process Engineering, or a similar field.
* Solid understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and process pipework systems.
* Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
* Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Confident using estimating software (Trimble) and Microsoft Excel.
* Knowledge of mechanical materials and their applications across industrial/commercial environments.
* Well-organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and tender deadlines simultaneously.
* Clear communicator who works well in cross-functional teams.
