Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship 2026

Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann are now accepting Expressions of Interest in apprentice heavy vehicle mechanics in the following locations for 2026:
Dublin - Cork - Waterford - Wexford - Ballina - Limerick - Thurles - Tralee - Galway - Athlone - Longford - Stranolar - Sligo
These apprenticeship positions are open to both female and male candidates. Our apprentices are trained to the highest possible technical standards and acquire, amongst many other skills, the ability to maintain the various systems associated with modern public service vehicles. This includes training on the various day to day repairs and preventative maintenance tasks, in addition to vehicle diagnostics/fault finding with some of the most advanced systems of its kind in place. Our apprentices have had much success in the National Skills Competition over the years.
The apprenticeship comprises of seven phases, three off-the-job and four on-the-job. During all of these phases you are assessed on a structured ongoing basis.
On-the-job training takes place with Dublin Bus/Bus Éireann, in your allocated garage, during Phases 1 – 3 – 5 – 7.
Off-the-job training is designated by SOLAS as follows:-
Phase 2
SOLAS Education and Training Board (ETB) Training Centre in Dublin, Cork or Waterford
Phase 4
Department of Education and Skills – TU Dublin or TU Shannon
Phase 6
Department of Education and Skills – TU Dublin or TU Shannon
Requirements
Age Requirement:
Applicants must be age 16 or over before commencing their apprenticeship.

Education Requirements:
Candidates must have obtained the following minimum standards at the time of applying:

Junior Certificate 5 grade D's or higher
Leaving Certificate Applied 50 credits or above
Vocational Leaving Certificate 3 grade D's or higher
Leaving Certificate 3 grade D's or higher
Minimum 6 modules including 3 core – Communication, Mathematics OR Application of Number and Functional Mathematics, Personal Effectiveness OR Personal & Interpersonal skills
Note: The qualification used for entry to an apprenticeship programme must be from one specific programme.

We are now accepting Expressions of Interest for our apprenticeship campaign 2026 for both Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus. An Expression of Interest allows you to register your interest in our apprenticeship programme for 2026, so we can notify you when applications open on the 1st of March 2026.
