Senior Quantity Surveyor – Cork
Our client, a multinational engineering consultancy, is seeking an experienced Senior QS to join their Cork team on pharma/life science projects. This role involves independent work on a range of projects in Cork, reporting to the Department Director.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender documents for engineering and construction projects.
* Manage all aspects of project cost control, including tracking budgets, forecasting, and preparing cost reports.
* Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings and specifications.
* Provide advice on procurement strategy and prepare contract documents, including bills of quantities and cost plans.
* Evaluate contractor and subcontractor tenders and provide recommendations for selection.
* Assess and manage project risks, advising on potential cost implications.
* Conduct site visits to monitor progress, verify completed works, and assess variations.
* Negotiate and agree on variations, change orders, and final accounts with contractors and clients.
* Work closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure alignment of costs with project objectives.
* Ensure compliance with Irish construction regulations and standards in all cost-related activities.
* Prepare and present financial updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
* Support dispute resolution processes, providing detailed records and cost evaluations as needed.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantity surveying.
* Strong knowledge of Irish construction law, contracts (e.g., NEC, FIDIC), and industry standards.
* Excellent analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
* Proficiency in using quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft) and MS Office Suite.
* Proven experience in cost estimation, budget management, and value engineering.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge of procurement and tendering processes within the Irish market.
* Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
* Membership in a professional body such as SCSI, RICS, or equivalent is highly desirable.
* Full driving license and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
