Job Specification: Quantity Surveyor Position: Quantity Surveyor (QS) Location: Waterford (Site-based / Office Hybrid) Position Summary The primary purpose of the Quantity Surveyor position is to lead and support the accurate estimation, cost control, and financial management of construction projects.
The QS will play a leading role in assessing subcontractor payment applications and variations from project commencement through to final account.
The major objective is to ensure projects are completed within budget, providing value for money while maintaining high quality and strict compliance with contract terms.
Key Accountabilities Commercial & Financial Management Contractual Oversight: Understand and implement commercial terms and conditions (T&Cs) from sales teams or formal contract documents.
Cost Planning: Assist in the preparation of Bills of Quantities (Bo Q) for civil operations.
Target Tracking: Support the setup and management of commercial performance targets within internal management systems.
Variation Control: Lead the review of subcontractor claims and project variations to ensure financial accuracy.
Internal Advisory: Create commercial and contractual awareness among project teams regarding specific T&Cs.
Procurement & Pre-construction Strategic Sourcing: Assist the procurement team in sourcing cost-effective resources, including materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Market Intelligence: Support pre-construction activities by providing data on the latest technologies, current costs, and associated lead times.
Reporting: Analyse project outcomes and write detailed progress reports for stakeholders.
Site Operations & Engagement Project Liaison: Attend client meetings, site walkdowns, subcontractor meetings, and work inspections.
Financial Feedback: Provide continuous feedback to project teams regarding the commercial relationship between sales invoices and actual costs.
Process Development & Mentorship Standardization: Assist in developing commercial procedures and standardized documentation.
Skill Sharing: Share knowledge and impart technical skills to other team members to enhance department capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience Education: Third-level degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in a Quantity Surveying role.
Project Scope: Proven experience managing multiple projects or sites simultaneously.
Sector Background: Strong background in contracting services.
Experience within the renewable energy sector is considered a distinct advantage.
