Role Overview
Dar-us-Salaam is seeking a Freelance Front-End Web Developer to support ongoing website needs across multiple projects. This role focuses on implementing front-end updates, improving user experience, maintaining consistency, and ensuring that designs and content are accurately and cleanly executed.
The Front-End Web Developer will work closely with the Director of Strategic Communications and collaborate with designers, videographers, and other technical partners as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Implement front-end updates and layout changes across Dar-us-Salaam web properties
Translate designs, layouts, or written requirements into clean, functional front-end implementations
Ensure websites are responsive, accessible, and visually consistent
Update pages for campaigns, events, fundraising initiatives, and organizational projects
Support basic troubleshooting of front-end display or functionality issues
Optimize pages for performance, clarity, and usability
Types of Work Involved
Landing pages for campaigns and fundraising
Updates to existing website pages and layouts
Front-end support for donor and program pages
Collaboration with designers on visual execution
Minor enhancements to user experience and navigation
Technical Requirements
Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Experience working with CMS platforms (we primarily use WordPress)
Comfort implementing designs without heavy hand-holding
Ability to work within existing systems and structures

Desired Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
Portfolio or examples of front-end web work
Experience supporting live websites with real users
Ability to work independently while staying aligned with direction
Strong command of the English language, including clear writing, proper grammar, and the ability to communicate ideas effectively within an English-speaking professional context
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with nonprofits or mission-driven organizations
Familiarity with website performance and accessibility best practices
Experience collaborating with designers and content teams
Compensation
