Offer Description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associatewith theSchool of Engineeringat University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded bytheSustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)and is available fromMarch23rd****to contract end date ofMarch 22nd****.
The potential behind offshore wind energy in Ireland is massive, but how the acoustic impact of such developments is assessed requires significant attention.
In the case of wind turbines, we now understand a great deal about the generation of noise at source, but themanner in whichnoise propagates from the source, particularly over water, requires particular attention.
There are no accepted methodologies to assess the long-rage, low frequency noise propagation over sea water.
The project will develop a validated computational model to assess noise propagation over water, specifically for the case of offshore wind turbines around Ireland's coast.
This model will be compared to standard prediction methods, and the study will yield Irish specific correction factors, to ensure future developments in Irish waters are assessed to the highest standard, with minimal acoustic impacts.
The goal of the ASHORE project is to assess long range low frequency noise propagation over water, with particular focus on noise from offshore wind turbines.
Salary:Postdoctoral Researcher/Research associate salary scale €46,305- €59,063per annum, (subject to the project's funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts
Closing date for receipt of applications is 17:00 (Irish Time) on2nd March****.It will not be possible to consider applications received after the closing date.
