Overview

Position: Distinguished Scientist or Fellow – Mechanistic Modeling & AI. Join Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine to design, develop and deploy modeling solutions within the manufacturing environment, guide the advanced manufacturing roadmap, and mentor the modeling organization.

MSAT (Manufacturing, Science and Technology) Process Science, Modeling and Data (PSMD) team seeks a versatile, highly-motivated technical resource to work with an established, multi-functional, international team on biotherapeutics, synthetics, and advanced therapies.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as an individual contributor supporting high-priority modeling requests (e.g., root cause investigations) from senior supply chain leadership; interact with customers to explain rationale and outcomes.
* Lead cross-platform, strategic modeling innovation programs; collaborate with business leaders and IT to integrate next-generation digital solutions into MSAT's operations.
* Scout and benchmark new tools, modalities, and talent; represent PSMD and the MSAT organization at conferences and industry events.
* Serve as a technical mentor and guide for the modeling organization; work with the model maintenance and standards lead to ensure high-quality model solutions and adoption of standards.


Qualifications

Education

* Minimum of Master’s or equivalent degree in a scientific domain.
* Education in a technical field related to pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or similar quantitative field) is preferred.

Experience And Skills

Required

* Track record of delivering impactful solutions using mechanistic modeling and AI in manufacturing; familiarity with methods in both domains and guidance on when to use or combine approaches.
* Understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and unit operations; awareness of GxP regulation on modeling.
* Strong programming background (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, Julia) and familiarity with tools (e.g., SIMCA, ANSYS). Good software development practices (version control, CI/CD).
* Excellent scientific communication and ability to present quantitative information; ability to author and review sophisticated modeling-related documents (e.g., global guidelines and procedures).

Preferred

* Knowledge of computerized systems validation/assurance and model risk standards.
* Familiarity with optimization and process control concepts (model predictive control, reinforcement learning, state estimators).
* Publications and a strong professional network in academia and industry.

Other

* Proficient English (written and spoken).
* Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
