Job Title: Prison Medication Specialist
Role Overview
We seek a seasoned Pharmacist to contribute to the delivery of prison pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Audit prescribing practices within the Irish prison system to ensure compliance with relevant policy and guidance.
* Develop, implement, and audit guidelines for medication use.
* Provide expert advice on specialist medications, including Hepatitis C and antiretroviral treatments.
* Support logistics, medication management, and safety for the COVID-19 vaccination program.
Additional Duties:
* Advise medical and nursing staff on drug usage and participate in initiatives promoting safe and economical medication use.
* Evaluate and manage risks associated with medication use and engage in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) process.
* Participate in multidisciplinary committees, such as the Drugs and Therapeutics committee.
* Conduct audits and research to enhance medication safety and minimize errors.
* Assist with tender documentation and competitions for prison pharmacy services.
* Oversight and management of all prison pharmacy service contracts.
* Provide medication information and training to prison healthcare staff.
* Ensure proper medication storage, recording, and handling practices.
* Maintain professional competency through Continued Professional Development.
* Collaborate with the Prison Pharmacist as needed.
Requirements:
* Be registered as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or be eligible for registration.
* Possess at least two years of satisfactory post-registration experience.
* Demonstrate requisite knowledge and ability for proper discharge of office duties.
