As well as protecting people in Ireland from online harms, we are the regulator for the whole of Europe for large online platforms based in Ireland, working with the European Commission and counterparts across Europe. We enforce rules for journalism, user safety, and handle complaints from dissatisfied users.We regulate broadcasters and VOD providers, enforce codes on balance, children’s protection, political advertising, gender balance, and accessibility. We support Irish content development, including funding Irish-language films and local journalism, and promote media literacy. Our role is expanding in media development and regulation.About The RoleThe European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) was adopted in 2024, effective from August 2025, to promote media pluralism and independence across the EU. Ireland’s Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media is drafting legislation to transpose EMFA, which will assign new responsibilities to Coimisiún na Meán, including:Developing media merger assessment frameworks.Establishing reporting guidelines for public advertising expenditure.This role involves shaping these frameworks and ensuring compliance with EMFA regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesAnalyze draft legislation on EMFA transposition.Engage with the Department on legislation and implementation.Develop project plans for EMFA implementation.Create assessment frameworks for media mergers.Draft reporting guidelines for public authorities.Essential CriteriaUnderstanding of legislative processes and policy development within EU and Irish frameworks.Experience in policy and economic analysis.Familiarity with EMFA and media regulation.Ability to develop and implement project plans.Strong research and legislative interpretation skills.Experience engaging with government and industry stakeholders.Excellent communication skills.Desirable CriteriaMaster’s degree in law, policy, economics, or media studies.Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).Experience in regulatory authorities or EU institutions.Application ProcessPlease submit a CV (max 2 pages) and a cover letter (max 1 page) explaining your suitability via HERE.
