About the Role:
This is a critical senior role responsible for overseeing the financial and HR operations of the business. Reporting directly to senior management, the Senior Accountant & HR will manage accounting processes, payroll, HR compliance, and strategic financial oversight. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, strong leadership, and a hands-on approach to finance and HR administration. The successful candidate will divide their time equally between our Letterkenny and Malin branches.
Key Responsibilities:Finance & Accounting:
* Oversee all accounting functions across multiple branches, including sterling and euro payments.
* Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management accounts, and reporting packs.
* Manage payroll journal entries, PAYE/PRSI submissions, and reconciliations.
* Ensure accurate VAT calculations and timely filing (monthly and bi-monthly).
* Perform nominal ledger reconciliations and maintain financial control across suspense accounts.
* Oversee and authorise all vehicle purchase and sales transactions.
* Manage UK operations-related FX transactions, VAT, and customs duties.
* Prepare for and coordinate internal and external audits.
* Develop and maintain detailed financial tracking systems and reports.
HR & Payroll:
* Lead the payroll process and ensure all statutory obligations are met (ROI & UK).
* Manage employment contracts, HR compliance, and policy updates.
* Maintain accurate employee records, oversee holiday tracking, and handle staff-related reporting.
* Support recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations processes.
* Liaise with insurance providers for driver updates and payroll breakdowns.
* Monitor and reconcile staff commissions in coordination with finance.
Compliance & Reporting:
* Ensure full compliance with revenue, customs, and regulatory authorities.
* Manage and report on disability-related VRT and updates to official portals.
* Maintain up-to-date HR and finance documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
General Administration:
* Oversee office and workshop supply ordering and cost control.
* Provide strategic and operational support for ongoing finance and HR system improvements.
* Collaborate with department heads to improve processes and efficiencies.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA) with 5+ years of post-qualification experience.
* Proven track record in finance, payroll, and HR administration.
* In-depth knowledge of Irish tax, payroll, and employment law (UK experience an advantage).
* Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Surf, or similar).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and lead across multiple locations.
* High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
