Position: Paraeducators

Location: Kathleen H. Wilbur Elementary School

State Date: Aug 20, 2025

Reports to: Principal

Work Year: 10 months


Responsibilities

* To create and sustain an educational environment conducive to the District’s Mission; assist teachers in carrying out the educational program for a student or group of students to realize maximum positive impact on education.
* Develop and implement safe, caring, and enriching experiences for all students.
* Assist teachers in planning, organizing, and delivering instruction based on the approved curriculum and Common Core State Standards to help students move toward academic proficiency.
* Support/serve students remotely and in person depending on student needs.
* Work cooperatively with all school staff and students.
* Assist in carrying out the Individual Education Program (IEP) for a student or group of students once trained by a professional staff member.
* Reinforce learning materials or skills with individual students or groups of students; may include reading or writing support.
* Maintain confidentiality of student information and ensure safe and orderly student movement within and outside the building as required.
* Prepare the physical environment for daily activities; gather materials; maintain an orderly environment; secure materials and equipment at day’s end.
* Complete routine paperwork and record-keeping related to duties of the supervising professional.
* Apply consistent behavior, achievement, and discipline standards per student IEP and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
* Participate in parent conferences, IEP planning, and IEP meetings as appropriate.
* Assist students with reinforcing skills and using materials needed to function in a community setting/job site; accompany students in the community to support community-based instruction.
* Assist in delivering related services demonstrated by therapists and/or specialists; may include heavy lifting, transferring students to equipment, and/or entering a pool.
* Attend in-service workshops to improve competencies in working with students.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
* Assist students so they benefit from educational programs with behavior checklists and group formation as applicable.


Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Must be eligible for or hold a valid Title 1 Paraprofessional Permit (ParaPro Exam, Associate’s Degree or higher, or 60 college credits with a C or above); must maintain through professional development clockhours.
* Previous experience in a classroom setting preferred but not mandatory.
* Ability to support students requiring help with physical positioning and self-care; may involve lifting with specialized techniques and equipment.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
* Job involves repetitive stooping, twisting, bending; standing, walking, and sitting; may require lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.
* Complete Level 1 training by June 1st of the contract school year as a condition of continued employment.
* Acceptable Criminal Background Report; no entries on Child Abuse Registry.
* Regular attendance is essential.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Perform duties with consistency and high performance; reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.

* Work with professional staff to implement IEPs; reinforce skills and materials.
* Assist with safe student movement and maintain confidentiality.

* Support students in community-based instruction and in delivering related services as demonstrated by therapists/specialists.
* Participate in professional development and workshops.
* Other duties as assigned.
